Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo

Interestingly, there was apparently another Mara from Toronto at this hotel at the same time! How freaky is that! I traveled with two of my sons. We had an amazing experience, especially given the price. We did play Roulette, and I was grateful that we were sent to El Portillo after speaking with people who were assigned to Cayocoa. The... more

Hadn't been to Las Terrenas in more than 8 years. Despite the town's boom the infrastructure is still very underdeveloped. To get to the hotel you reach the sand beach front road and follow...the hotel is a pretty apartment complex. The restaurant offered fresh seafood everyday....perfect place to get it! The staff was friendly. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment... more

Totally disgusting, mice in the bed while I was in the bed. Mouse excrement on the mattress and on the adjoining tables to the bed. Please see photos. I have stayed in many hotels in the Dominican Republic. I have traveled many times to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and South America. I have never had mice visit my bed, while... more

We booked the Roulette and were placed at this hotel which was second on our list of preferences. It ended up being the right choice as our son who is 6 enjoyed the beach and the great oceanwater. I would recommend this hotel to any family with children since the layout of the hotel and the entertainment pertain to it.... more

I spent a week in the Samana area; two nites at the Cayacoa and the rest at the El Portillo. While I did book a junior suite (rather than the regular room), I was nonetheless given a regular room. I didn't complain due to the fact they gave me a room in Villa 2 which is near the beach and... more

I had an amazing time at this hotel. When my family and I first arrived we were taken back by the landscaping and cleanliness of the resort. The resort staff were always extremely friendly and willing to help. Despite some minor language barriers it was always good times with them, especially Santos (who ran a lot of the activities was... more

We travelled as a family of 4 from the UK with First Choice between 26 June and 10 July 2008, the flight was excellent and the time went pretty quickly. We were required to complete individual immigration documents, a Family document and each pay $10 Tourist fee on arrival, apart from this Customs was a formailty. The journey from airport... more

We flew into Samana Intl (El Catey) and were fascinated by the 90 minute ride to the resort. This part of the D.R. is very undeveloped and the infrastructure can only be described as "rustic." The road was bumpy, unmarked and sometimes not paved. The view of the countryside and the populace on the trip from the airport to the... more

Where to start? If you think you are getting a 5* as descrided in their vouchers you will have a horrid shock. It is awful. First we arrived and the damp in our rooms was so bad we refused to stay in that room - we were then moved to a room that smelt awful - seriously the chairs in... more

After five years travelling between the Dominican Republic and Mexico and always choosing hotels Bahia Principle, never imagined that finding a hotel chain with a service as bad. The cleaning leaves much to be desired, we had garbage at the door of our room over two days and we had to put it in the gardens, where all people saw.... more

We were at El Portillo from 26 June to 10 July and had a great time. I will try to keep this review as short as possible, our party was 2 adults and 1 girl (aged 6 years). Our last vacation was at the Bahia Principe Riveria Maya resort in Mexico, so if you liked that, but wanted a smaller... more

I have just returned from 2 wks at the El Portillo and I wouldnt particularly recommend it be anyone. It is as many people have stated a beautiful hotel and grounds but the hotel definitely caters for Dominican, Spanish and Portugese people and nothing for English. For example the entertainment and aerobics (which was not anything to write home about)... more

We've been twice to Hotel Alisei in the last 12 months and would go back tomorrow. Believe me, from Seattle, Washington, we are talking serious commitment. So, Hotel Alisei, will you marry me? You're beautiful, smart, fun. I love your ocean views, your coffee and your pretty pretty pool. You really know how to please me. I'm open to adopting... more

We just came(JULY 7, 2008) back from EL PRTILLO and it was great choice. The hotel was awsome. The rooms were beautiful and clean. We had a mini bar that was replaced everyday and a coffee machine in the room. The bathroom was great too. It had a jacuzy and 2 separate doors for the shower and the toilet. We... more

Just to start off with a bit of background information. I am a seventeen year old who has been on holidays abroad at least once a year ever since I can remember. This was a great resort. The grounds were well-kept and beautiful! Our room was very spacious!!! Everything seemed fairly new. I believe we went around the slow season, so the resort was quiet. It seemed like a relaxing retreat. The beach was great and the water was so calm and beautiful! I recommend staying here, as I hope to go... more

Ade a reservation for 1 week in Alisei. Living in Santo Domingo. Went with my car. Center town all the roads are in really terrible condition. You can not imagen. Holes from 20-40 cm deep in the midle. There seems to be one way traffic. Even the police drives the wrong way around. The road to and in front ofhotel... more

We wanted to spend our honeymoon at the Caribbean and we finally choose to stay at the hotel Alisei, which turned out to be the perfect place for honeymooners. We just got back yesterday from a great weekend at Las Terrenas. We chose Alisei thanks to Trip Advisor reviews and decided to write a review myself as appreciation. We live in Santo Domingo and wanted to get away for the weekend. Las Terrenas itself was the perfect place and Alisei was the icing on the cake. We wish we... more
