Traveler Reviews on Victoria Falls

Amadeus Garden Guesthouse

Jul 15, 2008

First off I'd like to point out that the Victoria Falls portion of Zimbabwe defied our expectations in the best way. No sign of any of the troubles that are taking place in Harare hundreds of miles away. Beautiful, almost magical natural setting. It's unfortunate that travelers seem to be avoiding this place because of all the media reports. But... more

I really hope Mugabe doesn't put this wonderul spot, with it's outstanding staff, out of business. The only bad thing about our stay was noting how thinly the hotel was booked because of the tumultuous political condition of the country. In fact, we almost cancelled our stay there, out of fear and uncertainty. Thank goodness we didn't. I am a... more

Simply magical. My wife and I spent 3 nights there and we were absolutely amazed by everything that this lodge has to offer. Every good thing you see from the reviews are true and I am sure you will find more pleasant surprises once you can experience it for yourself, as we did. We travel a lot and stay in... more

Great atmosphere - Bad morals. The first thing that caught our attention was its great ambience. The hotel is a living museum and it does take you back to the colonial days. The second thing, however, was a note on the table of our room, "Thou Shalt Not Tempt" - that should have sent alarm bells ringing loudly and immediately.... more

I was very impressed with the great reviews the hotel had here, and all the nice pictures posted. Still, I was quite surprised to actually find the hotel exactly like it was pictured. The hotel is clean, staff were friendly. Bathroom was in great shape, beds were nice and soft but not lumpy. The view was best part of the... more

We stayed at Masuwe Lodge because we were under the impression that we had to, in order to do the Lion Encounter. As it transpired, that was simply the way the wholesaler created the brochure. This was one of seven lodges we stayed in, and it is fairly basic. With the currency shortage in Zimbabwe, there is no wine of... more

We stayed at the Kingdom solely because we failed to bring $2,000.00 US with us when we traveled to Vic Falls. Zimbabwe has no way of accessing cash via ATM and the Western Union had been down for six months. If one desires to see the falls and book at least one excursion, pay for visas, and get out of... more

Hartmut and Miriam Giering were wonderful hosts for me as I finished my 5 country African adventure. The B&B was set up by my safari guide and I was very pleased. The place was very nice, spacious, clean and SAFE! They also provided transportation to the local area (something I was very grateful for with the upcoming elections in Zimbabwe).... more

I stayed at the hotel between 31st May and 3rd June 2008 with my wife and 2 kids. A great place to stay ,with friendly staff and neat, spacious rooms. The breakfast is sumptuous, though one has to repeatedly ask for warm milk. The rooms are clean, airy and the housekeeping is well done. It is located conveniently, very near the main... more

This is a restaurant and attraction all in one. They give you a real African experience..First they wrap you in an african wrap and when you are seated they bring over water to do a traditional hand washing. There are lots of foods to choose from, and what was the most fun for me was the interactive drumming session. more

We arrived at the Vic Falls Safari Lodge as jaded South Africans, thinking we could not possibly be impressed by the "African" themed hotel - after all, we live in Africa and all this is surely just for the tourists. In a country ravaged by poverty and a wrecked economy its a true wonder how this hotel gets it right.... more

I have just spent the night in the Victoria Falls Hotel. It feels disingenuous to criticise given the chaos in the country at the moment but this place is COMICALLY overpriced and pretty awful. It was clearly once a beautiful place and the location is fantastic but it isn't worth the money by any stretch of the imagination. Rooms are... more

We stayed at the Vic Falls Hotel the days leading up to the election. The hotel has seen its better days but it was very illustrative of Zimbabwe. You are able to see very clearly the granduer of the past and the potential of the location. I traveled with my 75 year old father, my wife, my 11 year old... more

Victoria Falls Hotel is beautiful. The gardens are well manicured, the buildings are beautiful, and the photos in the corridors attest to the past grandeur of this establishment. The private pathway to Vic Falls is quite useful and yes there are touts, but there are friendly and not so insistent, they're trying to make a living, you cannot be angry... more

We -- a middle-aged gay male couple -- stayed at the VFH on May 23rd for two nights before joining the southbound Rovos Rail trip to Pretoria. The location proved to be convenient not just for the Falls, but also because the Rovos Rail station is right in front of the hotel. The British government were warning against all but... more

Moved here after one night of their horrednous sister property, The Victoria Falls Hotel, just next door. New with a bit of a theme-park feel/Vegas vibe - complete with casino. Rooms can face the park, which you may see animals from. Hotel also has a pathway to Victoria Falls. Lovely open air restaurant. Very firendly helpful staff. Breakfast buffett -... more

Should be revoked one of the Leading Hotels of the World; maybe in 1970 when the last time they have refurbished it! Even the $30 for the English Tea service would have bene a rip-off IF the food was decent; instead if came wrapped in saran wrap and was a hard as the rocks along the Gorge. Every time I... more
