Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan Botanic Garden

Beautifully tended botanical gardens with plenty of tropical and sub tropical plants and trees. Give it a couple of hours to wander around the gardens in an unhurried educational visit. There is an entrance charge now for tourists but well worth a couple fo quid. The most spectacular display of the giant lily pads named after Queen Victoria. Near the... more

I stayed in Labourdonnais for a week while in Port Louis on business. Most of my colleagues recommended the hotel, but it fell short of my expectations. As a business hotel it is fine - the amenities are there, cable internet, nice buffet breakfast, etc. However, the carpet in my room is old and desperately needs replacing, my room is... more

I found this hotel to be very overrated, her sister hotel Lesuffren is far better . The staff at Labourdonnais are not very friendly and unfortunately dont all have the same information as I was given several different answers to my questions . The rooms are nice but there are no water bottles or coffee and tea making facilities in... more

In Mauritius everything loses at 5pm so there wasn’t much to do. Hence, we used to get up early and then started our daily excursions. The first place we went to was Port Louise which is the capital of Mauritius. Here we went to the Le Caudon waterfront, Port Louise waterfront and Harbor water front malls which have good branded... more

Enjoyed our stay. The rooms are practically on the beach. More than adequate amenities. Very polite staff. Helped us no end with candid advise and tips. Will return. more

With extremely short time (Cruise ship stop) and not having Mauritius rupees we could not enter the Museum, only its nice Souvenir shop, where we could not purchase anything, because of the currency problem.(Our info .has been that Dollars, Euros and British Pounds are generally accepted in Port Louis.) Nearby shops ( mostly Indian sales persons) readily accepted leading currencies.... more

We have just returned from a vacation to Mauritius in early May. It was the first time that we visited this beautiful island nestling in the Indian Ocean just next to Madagascar. Since we had gotten married, Mauritius was some how always there on our travel map and we really wanted to visit and enjoy the white sandy beaches and... more

There is a choice between buffet or ala carte - NEITHER IS ANY GOOD!!!!!!!. First off all: there is no food left halfway through the serving (breakfast or dinner), the food is the same each and every day, the food has got absolutely no taste!!! Not even the curry dish - imagine curry tasting like nothing! The bowels and serving... more

I read all the previous reviews on this site and was a bit worried about selecting this hotel. I was quite plesantly surprised as to how neat, tidy and central this hotel was. The staff were very polite and made every attempt to make our stay comforatble even though they did not speak english. The rooms are bright and clean.... more

Completely disagree with most of the reviews here. We stayed over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The beach was clean and there were plenty of beds and umbrellas. Noticed some dogs, but you get this everywhere in Mauritius. Never heard them bark, and never saw them go near anyone. Room was basic, but nice and clean. It was right... more

My Stay at the labourdonnais was excellent. In the centre of Port Louis, with easy access to the shops and the waterfront. The hotel is nicely appointed and the staff all friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is excellent Not near a beach but travel to the beaches in the north of the island is not a problem. more

The Central Market is a tourist attraction and it's best seen that way. The market variously sells curios, pareos, handbags, cushion covers, fabrics, shirts, (many of these items are imported from India) vegetables, "fast" foods - and there is a meat market across the road which is part of the whole. It is colourful, bustling, hot, crowded, smells pungent and... more

The hotel website is an email based form. I rang reservations to confirm if a room was available prior to my two week african business trip. Reservations confirmed that rooms were available, but I needed to complete the website based reservation, they would not accept a booking over the phone. I did this and waited 24 hours. No response. I... more

I am another traveller from India. I partially disagree with the comments of some of the reviewers. We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2004 and we absolutely loved it. The hotel is not first class but then again neither are you paying first class rates. Its a reasonable hotel and the problem arises when people want to pay... more

I stayed here for three days on a business trip. The hotel is not large (only 100 rooms) and there is no elevator. You may need to walk for a floor or so to reach your room. The standard room I stayed in is clean, average size, and with separate bathtub and shower. As said in previous reviews, you have... more

The Villa was beautiful. Like a home from home. Very Spacious and the hosts David and Krish made us feel very welcome. They provided us with info on tourist hotspots and the food was great. Mauritius is the most amazing place i've been. It really is a paradise. The poeple are so friendly and there is virtually no crime. This... more

Port Louis can be seen as a rather quaint old city with a few modern tower blocks to show its keeping pace with modern times. The waterfront is modelled on its counterpart in Cape Town, South Africa and is an attempt to display itself as a modern vibrant city (once it can sort out its notorious traffic problems). Port Louis... more

This is a frenetic market in Port Louis. A part of the market sells food products such vegetables etc and you find a pungent smell in the air. The Central market where tourists flock to is not unlike the souks you will find in Tunisia or Turkey but less in your face. Most of the goods on offer will consist... more

My husband and I visited the gardens. We had a guide (about £1) who pointed out all the different plants and told us lots of interesting facts. We particularly liked the bleeding tree and giant lilly pads. Worth a look and a nice few hours to wander around in the peace and quiet. more

Formerly known as the Royal Botanical Gardens based in Pamplemousses. Although admission is free you should tour this wonderful garden with a guide. The gardens started in 1735 as a vegetable plot but over the years it has become a botanical treat, particularly for palms and other tropical trees. There is a section where trees have been planted by international... more
