The Gateway Hotel

5 of 5 stars
norway
Nov 19, 2008

I wasnt expecting to much when booking this hotel after having read some reviews, but it was great. I really enjoyed my stay here, the rooms are nice ,the service is good, the massages are good. The jhankhar restaurant is much nicer than the coffee shop, the grilled prawns starter at jhankhar is absolutely delicious! more

Sheela Inn

Nov 18, 2008

I contacted the hotel with Lonely Planet author recommendation. It is okey if you have to stay there. I am sure there are better places. No hot water!! Not so clean, Had dirty sheets, but changed when I asked. So close to Taj Mahal 5 min walk from the East Gate. That was nice. I only stayed there one nite.... more

what do u say about such a badly managed property......loud obnoxious cleaning staff at reall y odd times, uncouth front desk attendents, food : 2 tummy upsets in as much days, unhygienic, nothing for kids, no play rooms, filthy pool, reeking towels, just a bunch of people crammed in a confined space, almost like a busy airport lounge. never again.....u... more

Taj Home Stay

Nov 18, 2008

If you are looking for a place to crash for the night, then you could consider Taj Homestay as it really is great value. Our room/toilet was clean & spacious. Bed was comfortable. They provided a hearty breakfast of hardboiled eggs, toast, bananas, coffee or tea. Only complaint was the towels which were a dingy grey & somewhat stained. The... more

Nov 17, 2008

We were struggling to find accommodation in Agra. Booked by phone (friend speaks Hindi which made it easier) but Col. Lamba speaks very good english. The rooms are spread over two properties across the road from one another. Our room was spacious and looked recently redecorated. We had private bathroom but it was next door rather than en suite. Not... more

I booked a reservation through the hotel web site 7 months before my stay. I received a confirmation email and my credit card was billed. When we showed up at the hotel, they had no record of the reservation! Luckily I had a printout of the email I received. It took them 40 minutes of research to determine that they... more

After reading the reviews of this hotel I pushed my travel agent to get us into this hotel and I am glad I did. We went for a room with a balcony with views of the Taj. The view was really beautiful. However, to me you are paying a premium for that view and I was not blown away by... more

Garden Villa Homestay

Nov 16, 2008

After experiencing a night drive from Delhi to Agra, we were exhausted and somewhat shell shocked. To locate the villa, we called for directions and were told to wait at a certain intersection. In a very short time, the owner’s son arrived on a motor bike and led us away from the noise and pollution into a very rural area;... more

Trident, Agra

Nov 16, 2008

We stayed here for one night to visit the Taj Mahal. After several days travelling and the train trip from Delhi, this was a real welcome pampering. The hotel is undergoing some renovation, and we did end up in the new rooms, actually we ended up with an upgrade to a suite. The room had everything required, TV, aircon (although... more

Trident, Agra

Nov 16, 2008

The Trident is one of the best hotels I visited in India, and yet reasonably priced. Closeby Taj Mahal, you can easily go and visit it at 6 in the morning, and return to the hotel for breakfast. The restaurant is actually one of the best features of this hotel: the food is excellent, providing a good selection of Indian... more

Hotel Kamal

Nov 16, 2008

Hotel Kamal is very close to the South Gate of Taj Mahal - great for early morning entry. The rooftop terrace restaurant looks straight out onto the Taj Mahal - stunning views. There are all sorts of small shops, internet cafes etc right outside the door as well as rickshaws/autorickshaws Food from restaurant was average, but view made up for... more

After our booking at a nice sounding homestay fell through, we ended up at this place. The room itself was ok, although it looked over a main road so it was very noisy and the air pollution was pretty bad. The breakfast was ok, although we saw both a mouse AND a cockroach in the room. Nice. At one point... more

Hotel Taj Plaza

Nov 15, 2008

....rooms expensive for what is really a budget hotel and they are a little unclean. The location makes up for it and our room even had a taj view, what's worth remembering though is that the taj isn't lit up on a night and is surrounded in smog during the day. However, you are a 15-20min walk from the East... more

ITC Mughal Agra

Nov 14, 2008

Very large hotel with professional, well presented and polite staff. This hotel must have been attractive when it was first opened to the public, however, it is now very out dated and in urgent need of up grading throughout! The bedroom was a good size and generally quite nice, but the bathroom wasn't very nice and the ceiling looked very... more

Trident, Agra

Nov 14, 2008

I did not stick around for long and here's why: We booked a 4* hotel expecting 4* consistency - we were wrong! The Trident reception area, restaurant and gardens are attractive and deceptive. As soon as we were taken to the hallway leading to our room the quality plummeted! The hallway carpet was old and ugly, as were the walls... more

Taj Mahal

Nov 14, 2008

The small word "Taj" contains so much of beauty and depth of love in it which can only be experience after visiting the big TAJ MAHAL. A mahal dedicated by a King for his beautiful queen. The Mahal elaborates the beauty and emotions of love in such an amazing way that one cant stop from going again and again. I... more
