I drove up from Reykjavik on my own near end of March (2006). Cold and windy but sunny and nothing a few layers could not handle. The landscape is unique and stark. I just came back from Iceland after a fantastic 2 1/2 days trip (through Icelandair's winter packages). In the middle of most W European countries the park would be outstanding. Its unspolit wilderness makes good rambling country and its geological significance, apparent in the knife edge ridges makes it interesting.
