Alamo Motel

After reading the two latest reviews I thought this would be a good place to stay on our way to Santa Barbara. Unfortunately the review from 2006 was more accurate. There are NO air conditioned units so when it gets really hot in the day the rooms are not aired and things get stinky. It's a very old motel that... more

My husband and I got married at the Union Hotel 19 years ago and we spent our wedding night at the Victorian Mansion before it was even completed! We returned this summer to find it even more beautiful than we remembered it! Each room has been created with incredible attention to detail and comfort! Everything from the decor to the... more

This is a wonderful property with both Charm and Enchantment. We recently spent a wonderful night in this beautiful Victorian mansion that has recently been renovated and updated by the new owner. Each of the six rooms is decorated around a different them - Ancient Rome or Egypt, a Pirate Ship, a Gypsy Camp, Romantic France, and a fun California... more

What a nice surprise to find this gem of a restaurant (albeit, only a restaurant 2 days a week!) while taking a "Sideways" tour with friends here from France. The 'flatbreads' were exceptional jewels of divine tomatos, exceptional cheeses, garden herbs and local veggies! The wine wa exquisite. The owner "Clark" was delightful & happy to share the story of... more

This is a neat 1880s hotel that Dana and Teri have totally renovated. It is clean and wonderful, new beds, etc. Food is fantastic (thank you Lupe), breakfast is just the right amount and makes you want to lick the plate. Dinner is just as wonderful, our steaks were cooked to perfection and my mashed potatoes/gravy was fantastic. Rates are... more

Los Alamos' downtown is roughly a two block stretch with two gas stations, a motel, and roughly half a dozen restaurants/bars. American Flatbread sits at the Northern end of this downtown strip. My in-laws took us there boasting that the flatbread style pizza was so good that there is always a one and a half hour wait. My in-laws also... more

My wife and I selected the Victorian Mansion in Los Alamos, CA, to spend our 6th wedding anniversary, based on a search of unusual B&Bs in the area. We found it to be even more charming and wonderful than what we expected from the online brochure. Under new ownership for the past six months, we were the first "Three day"... more

What a delightful surprise! My niece was down from Washington last weekend and a friend mentioned this place. We stayed one night on our way to the Hearst Castle. This Victorian on the exterior is beautiful but the rooms inside are amazing! Each room is a true work of art. We stayed in the Egyptian Room and from the moment... more

We didn't stay at the hotel but had a wonderful dinner in the dining room. The owner was very friendly and stopped to tell us about all the upgrades and improvements they had been working hard on for the past 8 months. They realize their reputation inherited from the previous owner is terrible and are doing much to change that.... more

You would think that there would be nothing in Los Alamos-- turns out, this an underground secret attraction that only the locals know about. If you are on the way to Santa Barbara, you have to stop by this place! The food is incredible- organic, farmers market fresh. Its actually where they produce their amazing pizzas (that you find at... more

This hotel has a lot of character! The couple who owns it fixed it up very nicely and it has such a warm, welcome feel to it. The hotel is spotless, and the rooms are very pretty and have an old-style decor. The owner is very friendly and had us giggling over his impressions when we got a bite in... more

Long waits, but a really cool, communal atmosphere (not a in lame 60s kind of way, but in a close friends hanging out, having a good time kind of way). Local wine list rocks. Flatbread pizzas are fantastic and cooked in old style hearths. Only open during the weekends as the rest of the time, they are producing frozen pizzas... more

I had recently been there. The motel room that I was given was neat and clean. Seems like they have new management. Their rates are reasonable at just $34.99 per person on weekdays and weekly rates at $200.00. Comfortable rooms, free breakfast every morning and good and friendly service. Location is very convenient, very near to the freeway but not... more

One of our worst ever experiences … We decided to stay at the Alamo Motel as nothing was available in Solvang, our tour destination … At $71 a night, we thought we had a deal, but little did we know! To begin with, the room stunk and was full of dust …flies and insects were all over … the bathroom... more

Located on the main drag on the West end of town, this hamburger stand has good burgers, great fries, great milk shakes and malts and good prices. A good little joint run by a local family, Charlie's also serves good Mexican food and has daily specials. A nice friendly place to have a quick lunch or dinner. more

Seated inside a former general store surrounded by original art and enjoying a delicious lunch is a fine combination. The small town, relaxed atmosphere is evident at Cafe Quackenbush and the food is delicious. My roast beef sandwich with danish blue cheese and homemade cream of mushroom soup were perfect antidotes to the rigors of the road. The ambience of... more
