Hotel Nevada

4 of 5 stars
western Nebraska
Oct 1, 2008

Overall it was a great place to stay and the goods outnumbered the bads...except for one thing. It's an old hotel and, for that reason, very cool!...also for that reason, very flammable. Fire escapes were not obvious, nor were routes or plans of how to get out if there was a fire. I stayed on the forth floor in a... more

Prospector Hotel and Casino

North Las Vegas, Nevada
Sep 22, 2008

We really enjoyed our stay at the Prospector. We brought our two dogs and they loved it too since there was a ton of grassy areas around the entire hotel. The rooms were in typical 'Holiday Inn' style (since this used to be a Holiday Inn) and very comfortable. There was a nice and clean indoor swimming pool for the... more

There is a reasonable selection of motels in this old mining town in the middle of nowhere Nevada and this one turned out not too bad. The front desk lady was very pleasant and helpful with directions to the supermarket. The motel itself is pretty dated but the price was right and it was clean. The bed was comfortable and... more

Bristlecone Motel

4 of 5 stars
San Francisco
Aug 17, 2008

Stayed here one night and was pleasantly surprised by the *extremely* comfortable beds, thick towels and high quality sheets that are just not normally found in motels, especially at this price. If you are looking for that stopover between the Sierras and the Utah National Parks, this is your place! No frills bathroom, simple furnishings, no funky motel-smell (phew!). Remember... more

Steptoe Valley Inn

Aug 11, 2008

The Steptoe Valley Inn is truly a gem in the middle of the Loneliest Highway through Nevada. The rates were equal to the motels, but we are so glad we selected this exceptionally clean and quiet Inn rather than the usual motel. The rooms are all decorated in Victorian style and each room has its own private bath, which my... more

Cell Block Steak House

4 of 5 stars
Volcano, California
Aug 11, 2008

This is a funky little steakhouse. Each booth is done up as a jail cell, complete with rusty bars across the opening. The best part is that some of the cells (we were in #9) have individual dimmers for the light over the table - great for geezers such as us. Our filet mignon was nice, and the cowboy beans... more

This sounded like a decent place to stay for our family for 2 nights. The website had some photos and such which made it look pretty good. We are a family of 4, and booked a large room with queen, 2 bunks plus a twin. I know it is historic, so we thought it would be pretty old and dingey.... more

We were travelling "The Loneliest Highway" on our trip out West and booked this the day of our stay. Picture an TV Western Saloon/Hotel and you get a good idea of the decor, minus the dancing girls, of course. The first floor is all slot machines, a restaurant, and the Front Desk/Cash-Out window complete with mail cubbyholes and actual key... more

Ramada Copper Queen Casino

This hotel is interesting, to say the least. The pool is inside the building, and there is a definite cholrine smell to the place. The slot machines are near the pool, and they seem to be a favorite for locals. (One lady apparently routinely brings her little doxie.) The restaurant is just average, and we eat elsewhere. The rooms are... more

Main Motel

Jul 20, 2008

I chose Main Motel based on Trip Advisor reviews. I am happy to report that the Main Motel proved the reviews to be accurate. The front desk clerk was very nice and friendly and accommodating. It is true that the rooms can be VERY small; and as a fellow traveler commented, the double beds are quite small and short. So... more

The Steptoe Valley Inn is a well-kept B and B with tranquil gardens and friendly proprietors. The historic buuilding is quaint on the outside, but has all the modern conveniences on the inside, while maintaining an "old west" ambience. The place is clean as well. We especially enjoyed the veranda . Each room also has its own private balcony with... more

Bristlecone Motel

I've stayed there four times (usually in the room with the copper Formica countertop and red sink). Other motels in Ely raised prices to over $100, so my per diem won't cover them. Yes, it's decorated very strangely. Who cares? The beds are great, it's really clean, and the rooms are large. Compared to other places in rural Nevada, this... more

We stayed at this motel because we were driving through town and were tired. I noticed this place off of the main highway which I liked because you don't hear all the traffic. This was a cute little mom & pop hotel and the management was very nice. They take pets here and it didn't cost extra to have my... more

This is a great place, the service was welcoming and quick, the place is spotlessly clean, the food was first class, particularly the hot & sour soup. If we are ever in Ely again, this is where we will eat. more

I stayed here for two days while I was visiting the Nevada Northern RR (extremely interesting and nationally unique), Great Basin NP and surrounding ghost towns. The hotel is old and the regular rooms are small, but completely consistent with a hotel from its era. (The corner rooms and Kennecott suite are bigger, if available. They weren't available when I... more

Jailhouse Motel & Casino

The Jailhouse has nice rooms at a good price. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. It's not perfect, but very good for the price, and it's right downtown with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. We'll stay at the Jailhouse again! more

Motel 6 Ely

I just showed up and paid cash, The lady at the desk was very helpful and directed me to the Hotel Nevada where there is a nice barbarshp about 100 yards west of the latter. The room was clean. The heater worked great. This is a nice town to visit. more
