We had an amazing time at Shamwari. We stayed for 3 nights, so had 6 game drives. Bring hats and gloves. I know it's africa, bit It's truely freezing at night speeding along in an open jeep! The accomodation was fantastic. We stayed in the tents at Bayethe, and while it cost a bit more, it was really worth it.... more

This place is an absolute must....if you've got the spare pennies! We booked in for a night at the end of our S.A 'leg', and we weren't disappointed. knowing we were pushed for time we gambled on 2 game drives being enough (and about as far as our coppers would allow!). Although it's a bit of a drive, the scenery... more

We went to Shamwari for our honeymoon. We were met by the manager as we arrived and shown to our room at Eagles Cragg. Each day we were woken at 5.30am to go on the first of 2 drives which lasted around 3 hours each. We saw elephants, cheetah’s and cubs, lions, hippo’s, rhino’s and giraffe’s to mention but a... more

We were in Shamwari for three nights and it was fantastic. We staying in Bayethe and the "tents" were amazing, private plunge pool, open fire, outdoor showers. We went on two game drives a day and our ranger, Sean, had an outstanding knowledge of the animals, birds and general environment. We got to see the big five and lots more... more

We have just returned from our holiday in Port Elizabeth, the first 4 nights (15th - 18th Sept) at Rippons. The location is lovely, the food excellent, the accommodation VERY comfortable and the staff very friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble at Rippons. Although the early morning and evening drives were very cold, (I wore 6 layers of... more

We spent 2 nights at Rippons at the start of our trip to SA. It was a fantastic experience. We arrived just in time for lunch and thought the food was amazing. There is also a picnic lunch available which we chose on our second day and would recommend. The evening safaris started at around 3.30 and we would welcomed... more

We stayed at Rippons on the first part of our Honeymoon at the end of August for 5 nights. Firstly I must mention we did not expect the weather as we expected it to be very hot all the time, it was not! The weather when out on the Game Drives gets very cold indeed so take lots of layers.... more

We have just returned from a amazing trip to South Africa and our first stay was at Rippon for 3 nights. After a long flight and internal flight to Port Elizabeth we were greeted by the transfer agent and driven off to the lodge. We arrived about 1pm and the first game drive was 3pm so we had a quick... more

We absolutely loved Shamwari. We stayed in Bayethe in one of their top tents and it was amazing. Very large with fire, private plunge pool on the deck and open plan bathroom area. Game drives were great. We had a ranger called Moshe who was excellent and had fantastic knowledge of all the animals and the game reserve. We saw... more

We arrived at Shamwari (Eagles Crag) not knowing exactly what to expect. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed as if we were family! Eagles Crag has 9 lodges which are mainly occupied by honeymooners and you can see why, this is definitely for the ‘once in a lifetime holiday’ experience. We were waited on hand and foot and... more

We stayed in Bayethe for 2 nights from 15th - 17th August, as part of our honeymoon. We had the most fantastic time at Shamwari and loved our tented lodge (despite my reservations when we were booking - not a creepy crawly in sight!) The rooms were spotless and all the little details like electric blankets switched on for you,... more

I stayed at Shamwari for two nights in August and was blown away. The service was impeccable - welcome cocktails on arrival, beautiful food and (most importantly) friendly, knowledgeable Rangers. We flew into Port Elizabeth late morning and picked up a hire car from the airport to drive to Shamwari. Within 90mins we were sitting on a deck overlooking the... more

We had the pleasure of staying at Bayethe at the Shamwari Game Reserve for 5 days from lMay 6 - 11, 2008. Our experience was fabulous and although we had high expectations, these were all exceeded. Our tent was much larger than we had expected. It had beautiful hardwood floors, air conditioning, heat, an indoor bathtub, two sinks, lovely towels... more

Absolutely unbelievable, cannot praise this enough, accommodation is in separate bungalows which are 5* +, and a short walk from main lodge, an armed guard has to walk you to your bed at night as this area is not fenced off from main reserve!! Food excellent, wines excellent, staff excellent, game drives excellent, rangers excellent. Not a place to go... more

We stayed in Long Lee Manor for 4 nights. My parents had been and recommended more than anywhere they have ever been and they travel a lot. It had a lot to live up to and it was much much much better than I could ever have anticipated. I could write about it for ages! I stayed in the old... more

My partner and I arrived at Shamwari Bayethe Tented Loge full of high expectations after reading great reviews. We were most certainly NOT disappointed. If anything, the experience far exceeded our expectations. The staff were extremely welcoming and efficient as soon as our car arrived. It took around 5 minutes do some paperwork and then, following a slow wander down... more

We read reviews of Shamwari & had heard it is probably the best game reserve on that side of South Africa - alot of people belive you have to go North of the country to the likes of Kruger to experience great game. We booked it because it sounded great, looked like total luxury & the biggest plus was it... more

It was my wife who convinced me that a safari would be a great way to start our honeymoon, I wasn't so sure, but nevertheless went ahead and booked three nights at Eagles Craig on the Shamwari Game Reserve. I have to admit that the whole experience was something I shall never, ever forget. The staff, including our ranger, 'Frans'... more
