Jack's Camp

We have mixed feelings about this place, some things we really liked, others we hated. The activities are all very interesting and very different from the other camps. The landscape is beautiful and out of this world, so vast and quiet, it’s worth the visit just for this. The food, excellent, without a doubt the best of the 6 camps... more

Jack's Camp

The primary reason we went to Jack's Camp was to see the Meerkats and they did not disappoint! They are facinating, adorable creatures and we thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them. We didn't enjoy interacting with the staff members of Jack's Camp. Our group of 3 agreed that the best word to describe the staff of the camp was arrogance. They... more

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp

Aug 21, 2008

We booked to stay for 1 night at this traditionally tented camp within the Makgadikgadi National Park, overlooking a couple of man maintained waterholes in the dry Boteti Riverbed. We were quite simply blown away by the camps location and view of the zebra coming to drink at the waterholes on their annual migration. We were given interesting information about... more

From the moment you arrive in the middle of nowhere and the giant aardvark next to the road says: "YOU'RE HERE!", you know your in for something special. This place is pure magic. Everything, from the staff to the food to the excursions into the Pans, to the meerkats and a walk in Gweta Village was amazing. My guide, TAUBAKA,... more

Jack's Camp

The food at Jack’s is excellent, the best I had in Africa. The facilities are delightful and quirky, so much so that I didn’t miss electricity. They use plenty of kerosene lanterns at dinner and provide them for the tents in the evening. The spacious platform tents are lined in Victorian style fabric, have polished hardwood floors, and are decorated... more

San Camp Our reservation at another Macgadikgadi camp was transferred to San Camp without consulting us and on arrival we were very unhappy that the standard of accommodation was much lower than we had expected from our original booking. Due to the diplomatic skills of our excellent guide Super and a flurry of outstanding activities, our unhappiness soon dissipated. The... more

For us it was one of the most magical places on earth. I long to go there again. Pure style in the most elegant old fashioned way. Very very special. Go if you have a sense of adventure and fun. You will be spoiled. more

The stay in Planet Baobab is nice and different right by the Magkadikadi pans. It's easily accessible by a normal 2x4 vehicle and offers hut accommodation in the middle of magnificient baobab trees. There is ok sized pool and an open-air bar. There's a water hole right next to the hotel area where you can try some animal spotting. The... more

I spent a week in Botswana with Uncharted Africa, first on a 3 day mobile safari and then at Jack's Camp. I have been to Gametrackers before and enjoyed the authenticity of Jack's more. It's not just game drives and buffets, it's quad bike drives in the desert over salt pans, stargazing, tracking with bushmen, river safari's, outdoor bucket showers... more

My wife and I just got back from Jack's Camp and had a wonderful time. The facilities are great, very colonial east africa. The tents have no electricity and may not be for everyone. They are very nice and the food is great. The real attractions at Jack's are not animals but the pans. If you go, stay 3 nights... more

Stayed here in 2004. Incredible spot, great guides, but the most inept management of day-to-day operations we encountered in travels on five continents. Especially aggravating in the context of the price paid. The place itself was spectacular, the desert unbelievably beautiful, and the San guides terrific. Getting a glass of water was a production. Any request for something like laundry,... more

I recently returned from Safari where we stayed at Jack's Camp for two nights. The pans themselves were awesome, but I was shocked at how rude the new managers were. At mealtimes especially our young female host went out of her way to deny the basic hospitalities of a glass with a can of coke, or a complete meal. The... more

We stayed here two nights in a family room. Found the open plan room slightly strange at first but the rooms are very unusual, locally inspired and decorated in rondavels. They do have some problems with intermittent power cuts so keep your torch handy. Staff were absolutely lovely and the food was great; all local dishes. Bar was comfy place... more

We loved our stay here! It was fantastic. We visited in August and amazingly had the place to ourselves. It was lovely. The whole experience was really well organised too. At some places, they ask what we want to do rather than give you advice about what would be the best activity for the day. That wasn't the case here.... more

Jack's camp was an amazing place. Don't expect to see the big 5 here. That's not what this place is all about. Rather you will enjoy the scenery of the magnificent salt pans surrounded by a variety of different game (birds, flamingos, storks, zebras, meerkats, springhares, foxes). This camp is very unique compared to other safari camps we visited in... more

My friend and I stayed at Leroo le Tau Camp for 3 days in mid June and witnessed the beginning of the zebra migration from the Kalahari to the water holes on the Boteti River. The Camp, located on the edge of the Makgadikgadi National Park on a cliff overlooking a permanent water hole on the Boteti, is ideally located... more

I can only really echo the previous correspondent. We stayed three nights at Jacks and had a wonderful time. It's not as luxurious as other "safari" places in Botswana, indeed running water I am told is a fairly new thing here and the mornings in May in (unheated) tents were very cold. But Jacks doesn't want to mollycoddle people who... more

And I chose my words carefully. Jacks is like no other safari camp, do not expect the big five, especially in the dry season, but expect a close encounters with a land that has so much to offer. The drinks.. whereever they appear are excellent, the food, is excellent, the staff absolutely wonderful, especially if you are lucky enough to... more
