My husband and I stayed 2 nights in Shelter Island for a little R & R. We live on L.I. and it only took us an hour to get to The House on Chase Creek. We went the last week of August and it was a great time to go (very quiet) because most families were home getting ready for... more

We visited Shelter Island for a wedding weekend and this was one of the recommended lodging options. It's in a quiet part of the island, offers a home-cooked breakfast (included), and the owners/staff were very pleasant. We had a wonderful stay - we were in the "Rose Room" which was spacious and nicely decorated. The large bathroom with jacuzzi tub... more

We went off-peak this past weekend in September. Had fantastic service and awesome food - mussels and scallops, great Long Island wine. The setting is so un-Long Island - very trendy music, great food, lighting, ambiance, candles, sand, Vueve Cliquot umbrellas and comfy chaise lounges the on beach. After dinner we enjoyed a glass of bubbly in those lounges, privately... more

I went here for lunch on a Sat, and would never go back! First off, they charge you $10 to park in their lot, even though it was empty. The service was terrible, and the menu us very limited and extremely overpriced. The final straw was when one of the dishes that we ordered (a dish that consisted of three... more

We had a late lunch at Chequit Inn by chance, because the other places we tried were closed after 3. (We had tried to go for dinner but without reservations, we were out of luck.) They were closing the kitchen but were kind enough to "sneak us in" before they did. Standard lunch fare of fish and chips/burgers was tasty.... more

If its a scene you want, then Sunset Beach is the place to be. Right on crescent beach, with a trendy loungy feel, this is definitely a hot spot for drinking, partying and a place to be seen. Warning, eat elsewhere. The food is overpriced, the portions are microscopic and not very good. I suggest dinner in town and drinks... more

Dory

Dory is a surprising restaurant. When you walk in it looks like a bar. But past the bar onto the expansive deck is a no frills, quaint restaurant at the edge of the water. The service was fantastic - our server never missed a beat. And the food was simply fantastic. The clam chowder is not to be missed. The... more

We are so pleased that we chose the Olde Country Inn B&B for our stay in Shelter Island last week. We were a little weary of B&Bs, not wanting the pressure of having to socialize with proprietors or other guests if we felt like being along so we chose the Olde Country Inn because it is a slightly larger B&B... more

The Chequit Inn was adorable, clean and close to the ferry from Greenport. We took our bikes and spent the weekend riding around the island -- Nice beaches and very relaxing. more

Olde Country Inn

We live in the city and wanted a weekend getaway. The Olde Country Inn was perfect in every way. Cozy, quiet, relaxing, and quaint. Close walk to the beach, but away from the hectic Sunset Beach hotel. The breakfast by chef Marcel is TO DIE FOR. Custom made to order eggs benedict and blueberry pancakes eaten al fresco on a... more

I stayed their recently for a weekend visit to Shelter Island with a galpal. This was one of the few places on the island that happened to have last minute availability. It was clean and charming. Maria, who runs the property together with David, is happy to share local knowledge. They have a nice porch which is great for breakfast... more

We stayed here over the weekend as friends of ours were getting married at Shelter Island and it was among the more affordable accomodations we could find. We chose a room in the Cedar House because we were told they were larger than those rooms in the summer cottage and also that they had air conditioning, but they were less... more

Get yourself a front row seat in the sand, along the road. Who cares that drinks are $15 each. The location, crowd, food, and everything else is the best! more

House on Chase Creek

May 8, 2008

If you’re interested in a really cute romantic place to stay, then go for the House on Chase Creek B&B. Room no. 4 is particularly gorgeous as you get your own living room with your own log fire. Compared to the hotels on the island, it’s cheap as chips. There are lots of other good reviews of this B&B, on... more

This was by far the best bed and breakfast experience that I have had. The rooms were very nice, well appointed and nicely decorated. The best part about the experience was the restaurant in the facility. They have a truly world class french chef who prepares the most delicious meals. The atomosphere is homey and the pub is well stocked.... more

We chose to stay at the cottage as it was a little less expensive, although prices were lower in the off-season anyway. They have a skeleton staff during the off-season so we were checked in by the bartender. He gave us a warm welcome and had lots of helpful information on the local area. Luckily the restaurant wasn't that busy... more

We spent three nights at the House on Chase Creek, a small B&B near the Heights on Shelter Island (Suffolk County, NY). It could hardly have been better. The B&B has just four rooms, a tidy breakfast room, deep front porch, and a hammock strung between two trees right on Chase Creek. The owners were personable, available, and made sure... more

Last Sunday we rode the ferry from New London, CT to Orient Point, then biked to the Chequit Inn on Shelter Island. It is biker-friendly - you can safely leave your bikes on their porch, or you can keep on eye on your bike in the park across the street as you dine on the lovely outdoor patio. The food... more
