Lake Manyara Tree Lodge

Oct 5, 2008

This hotel is absolutely magnificent. It's a long drive to get there at the far end of what many people say is one of the quieter parks in Tanzania, to the extent that beforehand I had been worrying whether spending two nights at the Tree Lodge was a mistake. nothing could be farther from the truth. When we arrived, pretty... more

This tented lodge is situated in a beautiful setting, on the side of escarpment overlooking Lake Manyara. Tents are very private with the trails behind so you don't see people walking infront of your tent all the time. The interiors are quite luxurious, with attached bathroom and shower. Each tent has a private balcony with expansive views of Lake Manyara.... more

We spent two nights at the Manyara Serena after touring the park. The lodge is located on a hill overlooking Lake Manyara and the view is absolutely fantastic. The rooms are built to resemble huts and are clean and tidy. We had a great view of the park. There is an infinity pool with a view of the park, but... more

What a treasure in the middle of the bush. This was our first stop of three on our honeymoon and what a way to start! CC Africa is an outstanding company - their attention to detail can be found everywhere. From the beginning of the day to the end, we could want for nothing. Everything possible was thought of (from... more

We stayed here for 2 nights and had two 'adjoining' rooms. Both rooms were clean and tidy with good quality fittings and fixtures and good toiletries, towels, linen etc. We had superb views of the lake (first floor rooms are needed to get a good view) from our balcony. The pool is lovely but absolutely freezing so you have to... more

Rooms fine, shower good. Food was good (self-service buffet style) and service ok. Lunch box from this hotel appalling though; Cheese roll had 6 flakes of grated cheese (no kidding), ham roll had 1 small slice ham and 1 small slice tomato. Not good enough at all. View from the dining room and bedrooms stunning. Gardens immaculate; seems like a... more

Quite incredible. Our time at the lodge was a wonderful introduction to our safari. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The park itself is fairly small and you tend to do the same routes over, so two days was probably about right for us. Accommodation and food were outstanding (as per normal with CC Africa).... more

Gibb's Farm

Stayed at Gibbs farm in early August. Had expected to be staying elsewhere, but due to a mistake by Virgin, we were taken to Gibbs Farm and it was the best mistake ever as we had a brilliant 2 night stay. We stayed in 2 standard rooms which were very comfortable and clean. The most superb coffee was delivered to... more

Overall, unless you are a flamingo freak, I would skip Lake Manyara. The owners are renovating this facility which had passed its prime. It looks like it will be very nice when it is finished. Some of the lodge is still dated and worn, but there is a new pool with rock patio, a brand new cabana bar and a... more

Gibb's is a good place to break a safari - nice bath, comfy bed and great food. Only downside was slip- ups in management. Tea ordered - not delivered, Guide booked - turned up 40 mins late (after a couple of phone calls) Talking to others about these slip-ups we were not the only ones. more

Five of us (family) stayed one night as part of a safari package – full board. Its part of a chain of lodges operated by 'Hotels & Lodges' all offer a similar standard in respect of board, facilities and food – we stayed at a total of three of the four – see other reviews. Wonderful setting over looking the... more

Manyara NP was our first stop after arriving in Tanzania. We were dropped off at the tented lodge & then headed out on a safari in the afternoon (20 mins drive). In comparision to Serengeti Manyara is a bit tame, but has lots of wildlife such as elephants & giraffe. Loads of pink flamingos on the lake. The feel is... more

We were traveling with our children (6, 9 & 11) and were unable to stay in two tents that were close together. 2 of us stayed in tent #6 which was really romantic and had a nice view of the lake. The other 3 stayed in Tent #12 which was very spacious. The tented camp is a must-do while on... more

The hotel is perfectly placed overlooking Lake Manyara, the views from the balcony and the infinity swimming pool are amazing. The rooms are well equipped, clean, comfy and decorated in African style. The staff were very friendly, the buffet was well prepared at meal times and Lake Manyara National Park is close by to enjoy an afternoon game drive. more

We satyed at this lodge because we couldnt get in at the Manyara Tree lodge with CCAfrica (It was closed). CCAfrica were quite unhappy with this and tried to get the tree lodge to open just for us. In the end our stay at Serena was not so bad and indeed the staff here are excellent. I left a rather... more

I really liked this hotel and thought it was a step up in quality from the ones I stayed in in Ngorongoro (Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge) and the Serengeti (Seronera Lodge). Perhaps because Lake Manyara is a bit less remote and closer to 'civilisation'. The food was fantastic, the service was friendly and top notch and the rooms were clean and... more

We spent one night in this remote, but very well equipped resort. This is supposedly the only Maasai luxury resort in Tanzania! The staff was very attentive, and someone is assigned to you upon arrival to assure that you are carried for well. Our lady got us snacks, served our meals, etc. Beautiful large room with a great shower, nice... more
