Traveler Reviews on Selous Game Reserve

Beho Beho

Nov 14, 2008

My wife and I spent four nights at Beho Beho - an excellent place which will almost certainly exceed expectations. The luxurious lodge offers fantastic food, nice rooms, pool and everything you would expect for the price. More importantly, it has very impressive guides who really enjoy sharing their extensive knowledge with guests. Even old safari hands will acquire new... more

We had an outstanding time at the Selous Safari Camp, recommended by Tanzania Odyssey. We were very well looked after and had excellent game viewing. more

We stayed at the camp 3 nights (perfect length of stay in our opinion) as part of our honeymoon. The tents are comfortable although without any unecessary luxuries. The location of the camp is amazing. We had views onto the lake from our tent, with elephants passing by. Food is simple but very good; all the guest eat on a... more

a group of 6 of us stayed 4 nights here.Flew down from Dar with Coastal airways. On arrival at the airstrip we immediately questioned the ex rufijiites who were taking our plane back. I asked about Roger, the possibly unfriendly manager. Hooray! no longer here, instead its extremely friendly Charlie and Cathy. All the leavers were so sad to be leaving.!... more

Being on safari is a wonderful experience. If you are considering this lodge for your first experience or as part of a honeymoon combined with beach in Zanzibar I would say ‘just book it’. The wildlife is great, the boat option being a good alternative to Land Rover and something you won’t get in Serengeti or Masai Mara. The tents... more

Sand Rivers Selous

Oct 5, 2008

We stayed for 6 nights at the Sands River lodge and had a fantastic holiday. Our guide met us at the landing strip and stayed with us for all 6 days. He was an amazing guide, who had such brilliant knowledge of all the animals, birds and plants, we could not have hoped for anyone better. We stayed in three... more

Selous Safari Camp

An unforgettable experience. This is camping without hassle and your own butler. There are only 12 'tents' and a personal service that I have not received anywhere else. The tents overlook a lake full of crocodiles and the slope to the lake is usually dotted with impala, vervet monkeys giraffes, elephant and hippo. Night visitors include hyenas, bush babies, genets,... more

It's hard to put into words how much we enjoyed our stay at Lake Manze Camp. Apart from the wonderful setting in the heart of the bush, right on Lake Manze, the accommodation was clean, comfortable and so romantic with only candlelight at night and hot outdoor showers so you can shower under the stars. The staff and guides were... more

This was our first safari and we were very glad to have chosen Manze. It far surpassed our expectations. We were picked up from the local airstrip (literally just a grass landing strip) and immediately our safari began. Within 5 minutes, we had seen impalas, zebras and giraffes. The jeeps were very comfortable evethough there are no roads and the... more

On arrival, we were greeted by the manager (I believe his name was Roger) and he takes it upon himself to schedule all of your tours for you, however having a special desire for crocs and hippos, we did interject and alter his plans. The staff is nice but we often felt disrespected by Roger who seemed to be talking... more

We have just returned from a three night/four day stay at Lake Manze Camp and it was absolutely amazing. This was our first safari - so we had little idea what to expect from our accommodation or our game drives. I can say is that it would have exceeded even the highest of expectations. We arrived in the morning and... more

Selous Riverside Safari Camp

Sep 13, 2008

We have just returned from Selous Riverside Camp which we really enjoyed. This is a small camp by the river with excellent tents and food. The staff are incredibly helpful including the trackers, guides and waiters. We were escorted back to and from our tents by Maasai tribesmen, who kept a night watch. The noise every night of the bush babies,... more

This place is perfection. From the moment we touched down in the dusty airstrip we were given wonderful hospitality. Terry the camp manager was very welcoming, and her enthusiasm for the bush was infectious. The safari experience (we went on the drives, boat and on the walking safari -twice) is very difficult to put into words. It was breathtaking. Most days... more

I have just spent 5 magical days at the Selous Safari Camp and it was perfect in every way. The warmth of the welcome and the friendliness of the entire staff made it feel like home and one of the most friendliest places I have ever stayed. I certainly did not want to leave! There were lots of small thoughtful... more

Selous Safari Camp

We spent five days at Selous Safari Camp in the first week of September 08. It was my first experience of a holiday in Africa and was truly memorable. The accommodation was spotless: a very tasteful tented room set on decking with ensuite bathroom and verandahs at front and back. Furnished simply but beautifully and overlooking the lake. Nothing can... more

Sable Mountain Lodge

We travelled to Sable Mountain on the Tazara train - highly recommended - and as it was running late and dark when we got there, saw a huge porcupine ambling cross the road and a couple of civet cats before we even got to the lodge. We were in a stone banda high up the hill (no 5) There are... more

Rufiji River Camp

We spent a great 4 days at Rufiji. What makes it so special is that you can do safaris by boat and on foot, as well as in jeeps. This gives three totally different perspectives on all the plants and wildlife. Most of the camp's guides are excellent (of our 6 safari excusions, only on one were we disappointed with... more

Beho Beho

I had an incredible time at Beho Beho, and cannot wait to return. All of the staff put so much effort into making your stay enjoyable and it is all done in an inconspicous manner. The camp is well run, the guides are outstanding (I learnt far more from Sacha and Onesto than from anyone else at any of the... more

Beho Beho

Aug 12, 2008

Beho Beho was our first safari experience and has set a very high standard for the others that will follow. It may be expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. The staff are fabulous and genuinely friendly. There is a real family feel to the place and lots of chat between guests and staff over dinner each night.... more
