Duffer's has great food and a large and varied selection. Food-wise it's one of the best for miles around, but I think it probably gets overlooked by a lot of the people visting this area because it's not a "touristy" beach type place. It seems to be frequented more by the locals than the area tourists, which I think is... more
We made the mistake of eating here on the way to Holden Beach. No one enjoyed the meal or the way the look of the inside of the restaurant. Clam Chowder and Gumbo were horrible. The salad bar looked and tasted like it was from the 50's. Shrimp was very small and not good, go to Chili's down the road,... more
Im telling you I have stayed at all three hotels in Shallotte and the Holiday Inn Express has been my favorite from day one. Yeah it is always the most expensive but all in all it is worth it. My parents live in Holden Beach and I visit them often and sometimes bring friends so we like staying in the... more
This is simply the best. Their ice cream takes you back to simpler times. It is a family tradition to stop here every time we are visiting. Banana-Nut is where it's at! more
Every time we travel to Myrtle Beach or Charleston, we always find time to drive to Shallotte to eat at Joe's. It doesn't matter what other items are on the buffet, I always eat barbaque, cole slaw and hush puppies. If you enjoy NC style barbaque, go to Joe's. We tried the Joe's Barbaque in Whiteville but it was not... more
Played 10/13/07 with a group of 24. Greens were mostly sand due to killing grass by watering with brackish water. Tees were chewed up. Expensive and satff was not about to offer refund/replay. more
My wife and I ate dinner at this restaurant because we had stopped for pastries there one morning and found them to be decent. The dinner was not. First, they were out of white wine the night we were there. Come on. There are two grocery stores 30 seconds away where they could have at least gotten box wine! The... more
dirty halls door did not close and noise and sound came in from hall breakfast area not well attended - hot rolls cold we are priority club members and were not acknowledged we always use holiday inn and have never had a stay like this more
For the price this place IS a dump. $75 should get you at least a clean room. Main complaint... moldy shower curtain. I have stayed in Microtel before but the quality control apparently varies from place to place. more
Based on previous reviews I wasn't sure how I would like the hotel, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was large, and had a pullout sofa that I hadn't known about. The room was very clean and had a microwave and refrigerator. The internet service worked perfectly and easily. And the breakfast was great! Not your typical skimpy... more
We had never been to Shallotte and only had 2 weeks notice for a dance competition in the area. The Microtel Inn was listed on the information that we were given in a list of local hotels. I read some reviews on-line and was expecting a clean hotel with a refrigerator in the room and a great continental breakfast. What... more
We stopped for a night in Shallotte NC on our way from NYC to Charleston. A billboard advertisement on Jerome's Restaurant outside of town led us to believe that we might have found a good local seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, it is one of the worst restaurants we have ever experienced. The only good thing about Jerome's is that no one... more
My family of four stayed at the Shallotte Holiday Inn Express in late June, 2006. We picked it because of reasonably good reviews on this website and because of the recommendation of a local resident who checked the place out before we got there. Having not been in the other two hotels in the area, I cannot compare, but suffice... more
This was really a nice little motel -- we were in the area to attend an awards ceremony, and didn't want to drive all the way from the Raleigh area that Saturday morning, so we decided to find a place close to Brunswick Community College where we could spend the night. This Holiday Inn Express served our purpose perfectly, the... more
i thought the course was in fantastic shape. the course was well designed and some of the most beautiful views you will see over looking the shallotte river. the ninth hole is one of the best finishing holes you will play it directly overlooks the river. The people working there were very friendly and courtous. We enjoyed the area and... more
We stayed here for a wedding in Shallotte. I was very pleased with the clean room and kind staff. The breakfast was nice. The carpet in the hall was alittle dirty but the rooms were just fine!! If I ever have to go back to Shallotte, I would stay there again. more
No I am not a travel reporter, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Actually we stayed for 3 nights while we were meeting with our local builder and several suppliers. Overall, this is a nice little hotel although a bit isolated from ammenities such as restaurants. It is just off Rt. 17 half way between... more
The first time me and my girlfriend went to this hotel the service wasn't what we thought it would be but we gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were understaffed and couldn't get to everything at once. So we decided to come back to see if the service had improved, it actually was worse than the... more
I recently traveled to Shallotte to visit some family, I checked into the Microtel and it seemed very nice and neat. When I walked in it smelled immaculate. I went to the front desk where I was met by a beautiful young blonde who greeted me with a smile. I gave her my confirmation number and requested a ground floor... more
