Agree with most recent reviews - Bloomfield Lodge is a gorgeous place to chill out in a rainforest environment, with good food (and lots of it!), lovely accommodation and very professional hosts (thanks, Courtenay & Ben). The light aircraft transfer to and from Cairns is pretty amazing too. We stayed in a Honeymoon Cottage at the furthest point from the... more
My boyfriend and I went to Port Douglas for five days and were really looking forward to the Jungle Surfing. But ended up really disappointed. For $89 each, I cant believe they are still in business. In total, we were only actually on the flying fox for about 2 minutes maximum. The rest of the two hours, we were just... more
My fiance and I spent 4 nights at Bloomfield. We had won the trip through a Trailfinders competition, and being an urban lover, I was not sure at all if I could handle being so far away from civilisation! However, Bloomfield has changed my mind and attitude toward this type of travel and accommodation. You arrive at the resort via... more
Not my description " a tent with a bathroom " but a description written in the visitor book by a previous camper. To be fair the comment is not without some merit however probably five star camping. The visit to Cape Tribulation was to be the highlight of my holiday in Oz and I was not disappointed. The cottage was lovely,... more
Cow Bay Homestay is a home away from home. Marion and Brian, the hosts, made us feel like one of the family. Marion also provided us with invaluable infomation and advice on the attractions of the area. Their home is a peaceful osais in the midst of the beautiful daintree rainforest, complete with a natural freshwater swimming hole and only... more
Stayed three nights - two adults, one child. The room seemed freshly painted and decorated, and was reasonably well equipped, with bar fridge, microwave and necessary cookign implements, crockery etc. It seemed new and fresh too. Being the tropics it takes a long time for anything to dry, including hair (mine stayed annoyingly damp most of the time!) - a... more
The Rainforest Retreat Motel ended up being the worst part of our Queensland travel experience due to the attitude of the owner towards us. I was travelling with my two children and we had booked the hotel directly. Originally we booked two rooms but as my travelling companion had a medical emergency and couldn't come, we had to cancel the... more
this is a review for cape trib and not the rainforest hideway, though i do think i visited their cafe. Cape Trib is magical, but beware, if you are there by yourself, or with crummy company it will be hell. no cell phone reception and no power lines, generators only my friends. I stayed with a local which made cape... more
We spent a day on Rumrunner with our kids aged 5 and 10 and had a wonderful time even though the weather was not very clement. The crew were really great: very knowledgeable about the reef and keen to protect it, good fun without being overbearing and very professional in all aspects of the operation (with a big emphasis on... more
We had a really nice time at this lovely little place on Cooper's Creek. The owner was warm and welcoming and hospitable and the dinner that we had at the restaurant was delicious. A little bandicoot could be seen foraging quietly around in the surrounding rainforest whilst we ate and the wonderful sounds of the rainforest around us added to... more
The Beach House resort is mainly for backpackers, independent travellers and groups of friends as opposed to families. We booked their "luxury" beach hut, but it was very basic and not really worth the money. We were left to find our own way down to the hut in darkness and we eventually made it after a few detours. It is... more
We are four college grad's from Holland on a road trip from Sydney to Cape Trib. When we first arrived at farmstay we just wanted to give our feet some rest after five hour hike up mount sorrow. The serenity of the place took us in and we decided to move from our first accomodation in Cape Trib to Farmstay.... more
After a long early evening bus ride from Cairns after a day at Lizard Island, Alison met us at the air strip and even made a late dinner reservation at a local restaurant called Whet. Whet literally kept the restaurant open for us and we thought that the food here was as good as any place we ate. This evening... more
My partner and I spent seven wonderful nights and had a greatest time at Crocodylus. Speaking for myself, it was beyond my wildest dreams, to be able to sit underneath the canopy of a truly wonderful rainforest (I wanted to bring it home with me!), relishing the air, watching for anything that moved, loving the greenness, the serenity. Sometimes at... more
We stayed at this location for only two days instead of four as we were very very disappointed with the whole experience and would never advise anyone to stay here. All the brochures etc promised a luxury rainforest retreat but in reality the accommodation is only a timber cabin in the rainforest. There was a pic of a balcony but... more
My wife and I just stayed for 4 days here and had a great time. It is great to be smack in the middle of the rainforest. We are used to camping, so staying in permanent tents with comfortable beds was great. We also liked staying in a tent with its own bathroom and shower. We sampled the dinner offered... more
We chose this company to take us to the GBR because they offered a half day trip, leaving at 8:30am taking only 25mins to get there on a fast boat from the quieter Cape Tribulation. We have two kids under 12 and thought a whole day on the reef snorkelling would be too long. But Ocean Safari still fit in... more
Eric and Judy are wonderful hosts who love the area and sharing their knowledge with guests. Upon arrival, Eric gave us a map with a color-coded overview of local attractions, experiences, and amenities. Our room was comfortable, attractive, and spotlessly clean. In addition, Eric and Judy are rightfully proud of the environmentally sustainable infrastructure that they have installed in this... more
This hotel gave us a great base for exploring the Cape Tribulation area. Being north of the Daintree River means that you are in the area before the daily Cairns tour buses arrive and after they've left. Many other visitors don't even cross the river. Hosts Eric and Judy provide a warm welcome in accommodation that exactly matches the website... more
