Read the previous report, which was spot on. We went self drive, but did not get such a fancy room. Our room was on the ground floor, we did have a sliding window which opened out onto the garden, however to get to the room you did feel like you were a mouse in a maze, or as my partner... more

A great location in Berkeley with great above average room sizes for the UK. Althought there was no one on reception to great us we eventually foulf a freindly face in the bar. Our Party ocupied 4 rooms none of which could fault them for being spotlessly clean and comfortable. The Sunday carvery is a must. I am not a... more

Went to Berkeley in Glos to see Berkeley Castle. When there was told of a ticket that combined castle and neighbouring attraction, Jenner Museum. didn't know who Jenner was until I got there. Dr Edward Jenner was first person to experiment and write up his findings on a vaccination against smallpox. It was a hideous disease and there is a... more

Booked two nights B&B over the phone weeks ago to attend wedding at nearby Berkeley Castle. No one in reception, wandered round the place at will and even inspected the grubby looking kitchen. Had to ring the hotel phone number to raise the proprietor. On arrival proprietor denied all knowledge of booking, hardly apologised and said "these things happen, we're... more

We have just spent 4 nights as "Self Drive" guests at The Prince of Wales Hotel, which is now run by WAShearings - well known for their Coaching holidays. This Hotel is right alongside the busy A38 trunk road on the other side of which is the main rail line between Bristol and Wales and the North. Trains seem obliged... more

We booked a room via the actual hotel as a stop off point on our way to Devon, having 2 young children we wanted to have a family room with 2 rooms. The room cost £90 for the room. This room had not been decorated at all, the rooms where large and the layout was ideal for what we wanted... more

We booked this hotel on the strength of the photo and the welcoming description. We had a dreadful time. The first of our group of three couples was left to show the rest of us to our rooms as we arrived, and from then on there were no staff available. One of the couples in our group had to move... more

We found the Old School House on late rooms and booked it because it sounded nice and romantic (countryside village, next door to Berkeley castle) near the Cotswolds. When we arrived, there was no one in reception despite ringing the bell for 20 minutes. In the end we telephoned the main number and the owner came down. The general impression... more

For a castle where a sitting monarch was murdered, this was not an exciting experience. Because this is an inhabited household, you see mostly furnishings. The castle has been extensively altered over time and if your looking for 12th century authenticity, look elsewhere. The grounds are very nice and if you can catch a play in the gardens when they... more
