The Carlisle House, centrally located in the town, does not disappoint. My daughter and I found it to be charming, clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. The delicious homemade breakfast was a bonus. Mary and Alan were knowledgeable and beyond hospitable. Finding ourselves behind schedule, we called Mary en route with our location and ETA. Precisely upon entering Carlisle, she phoned,... more
My partner and I spent 3 wonderful nights at the Carlisle House while in town visiting our son at Dickinson. Mary and Alan took great care of us, starting even before we arrived, checking in with us on drive from Philadelphia so that they could greet us when we arrived! Alan, gave us a brief but tantalizing orientation to the... more
I only had the chance to stay at Carlisle House for one night, but I wish I could have stayed at least a few more. Everything was perfect. It had a classic historical feel with the amenities we have come to count on. The room was beautiful and the bed was so comforable. Mary and Alan did everything necessary plus... more
My sister and I stayed at the Carlisle House for a long weekend in October of '08 and completely enjoyed our stay. Mary and Allen are friendly and conversational (Allen seems to have an endless stock of the best jokes). Breakfast was an excellent quiche with fresh fruit, muffins and lots of great juices and coffee. Both mornings we met... more
A clerk at the hetel we were staying at suggested this place for breakfast. It was family weekend at Dickinson college so I called in the morning before we left to go to the restaurant. I was told they did not take names, there was a line, but the line moved quickly. When we got there the line was out... more
This was our first stay at a Fairfield Inn (we most always stay at Courtyard's or Hampton Inn's). We were very happy with this Fairfield Inn. It just opened in August '08 so everything was new. The hotel was very clean. The staff we encountered were all very nice and helpful. We found this hotel to be very quiet unlike... more
We were on our way to Gettysburg from Ohio and I wanted a special place for me my husband to stay for our anniversary. I found this B&B in a book "Off The Beaten Path - Pennsylvania. We were extremely pleased with the service. Mary placed a bottle of champagne in our room as well as a card I sent... more
When arriving at the Sleep Inn in Carlisle the woman at the front desk seemed confused about the check in procedure. We were not welcomed to the hotel, and when handed out room keys weren't even told which room we were staying in or directions to get to the room- we had to ASK for that information to be told... more
Much better than any chain, such as Coldstone, and the price is good too. Has an outdoor seating area, which is great for kids, and the team. The owner is usually there, and it is family owned. The flavors are delicious, and the takeout pints are priced right. I always take one or two pints home. Cheaper than the grocery... more
My husband and I stayed at the Carlisle House Bed and Breakfast while my son stayed at Dickenson College for the night with his cousin. My sister had told me about her wonderful experience in this B+B. We had a great time there, from the spacious clean room with toasty robes, to the warm covers on a chilly night and... more
Almost spent a night here. Called the hotel for directions only to have the phone ring and ring. After three attempts (and 100 rings) the phone was answered. Then I realized why the desk clerk couldn't hear the phone. There was a party in the lobby. THE NOISE OF SCREAMING, YELLING girls and boys. The hotel hosted an out of... more
On the positive side, the ice machine was perfect and the breakfast was above average. When we arrived at 11:00 PM the night clerk and someone I assume was from housekeeping, tried to figure out if there was a room made up. The clerk gave three room numbers to the housekeeper, and she left. She called back in about 5... more
Chronologically: I ordered a king-size non-smoking on Priceline. When we make it to the Super 8 North Carlisle that evening, around midnight, the gentleman is very nice and gives my wife and I our room: 130. When we get to the room and try to open it, it slams open into a chain lock. Then some freaked out people inside... more
This is a new hotel. So everything is nice and clean. The staff was friendly. more
The restaurant is located in an old fire house and the decor is just super classic French cafe style and very inviting. I came into town for the motorcycle show and a couple of friends and I were asking around for a nice place for dinner, the California cafe was highly recommended by all whom I spoke. One women I... more
I have been staying at this hotel for years during the Car Show season, but this year will be my last along with many others from the Car Shows that I have talked to. The place is in such disrepair you would think your in an Econolodge or something but at $156.00 a night this is just unacceptable. The hallways... more
Went in on a busy night to help some friends celebrate a Birthday. Service was INCREDIBLY slow and many of the Beers that were ordered not in stock. When I finally got around to having a chance to order my meal, the waitress sincerely told me..."I wouldn't order anything to eat..." and went on to describe chaos in the kitchen.... more
Our room was huge and very clean. The breakfast room was great and had an attendant who made sure everyone had what they needed. Bonanza restaurant is a block away, and many other restaurants nearby. Alexander Lounge was undergoing renovation, but that did not effect us. The exercise room was above average, but I missed just seeing a regular treadmill... more
