When we were approaching Geologist's cabin from the east we were stopped by 4 wild burros at the spring in front of the cabin. We paused, took several minutes of video and still pictures. One of the burros, a brown one, has a right ear that hangs down. Makes him/her look kind of comical. We didn't get a good look... more

On Saturday the 26th of April, 2003, a group of adventure seeking off-roaders went to visit Mengel Pass and the surrounding area. We enjoyed the beauty of the desert this warm spring day and found pleasure in the company of the Gold Coast Cruisers members and a few guests. we came in the "back" way through goler wash in a trusty new japanese 4wd SUV. made it with just a couple hairy moments.... but the cabin took the cake...saw a kit fox or a small coyote drinking from the spring just west of the cabin. we arrived on the weekend right after sept. 11 and flew the american flag... more
