This "castle" was within walking distance from the B&B I stayed at for the night and free to visit with the smartvisit card. So I made sure to walk over and wander through. Some of the rooms were well done with period artifacts, paintings, and furniture. Some are still being worked on, which they neglected to mention before entering. As... more

We kept reading about Victoria's Legendary Landmark Castle but we had been to Victoria many times and never made it there because we were walking and just didn't want to hike up the hill to get there. This time we had a shuttle bus at our hotel (The Royal Scot) which took us wherever we wanted to go within a... more

I go to the Castle frequently, as a local. In reading previous reviews, I see that a lot of people bring their own biases and patriotism to their views. This is a "castle" in that Dunsmuir wanted to show off his wealth, therefore it classifies as a "bonanza castle" which is to say, Dunsmuir built it to celebrate or show... more

It is not the typical castle that first pops into mind. Glad we took the short drive to find this gem. It is absolutely amazing the workmanship and craftsmanship in this "house". There is still work being done but it does not hinder your experience. Well worth going to. more

We stopped at the Castle on our tour of Victoria. Be sure your party can walk a substantial distance. As the Castle is a National Heritage site, the buses are not allowed get close and so you must walk up a hill a couple of blocks in a beautiful neighborhood.. The 25,500 sq. foot castle is so beautiful, but it... more

On a recent trip to Victoria I visited this Victorian Castle which I'd seen from the air many times but never visited. Being European by birth, and therefore quite used to historic buildings with inspiring architecture and magical stories, my expectations of a castle in the middle of suburban Victoria weren't too high! The castle itself is interesting enough, but... more

Craigdarroch Castle is a house made from dreams and pride. A wonderful building with tons of history and information about its builders, owners, and the family that originally lived there. more

I visited the 'castle' on a whim and am I ever glad I did so. The staff, themselves members of the society dedicated to restoring this masterpiece, were wonderful and provided many anecdotes about the principal rooms. The house itself is the very embodiment of my inner fantasies of the sort of place I might live in were I fabulously... more

Admittedly, the home is beautiful from the outside. However, know that it was only a home for a short period of time. After being a home it served as a college and military hospital--so there are rooms dedicated to the college and the time after it was a home. it took less than a hour to do the self guided... more

I am a lady, 60 years young, from Washington state.I have always loved history and dreamed of one day visiting a castle. This is as close as I can come without visiting Scotland.I was in awe every moment of my visit to Craigdarroch Castle. It is so beautiful! A real tribute to the Society restoring it.My husband and I found it very... more
