We were excited to go here, since we had just seen the x3 movie right before coming. The castle is worth the drive out of victoria downtown. This is a working establishment, campus of the royal roads university. You will not find alot of tourists here. We were told that the only way we can see the castle is if... more

Hatley Castle was constructed as the home for Hon. James Dunsmuir in 1908 and was the grandest home built on Vancouver Island to that date. Victoria's premier architect, Samuel Maclure, designed the mansion in the English Queen Anne and Elizabethan revival styles of the Edwardian period. Fans of the "Poltergeist: The Legacy" and "Smallville" TV shows and the X-Men movies will recognize the castle, but a trip to its museum will give you the interesting background of it.
