We took the Golden Circle Tour with Iceland Experience by coach. It was a golden experience probably helped by the 22 degree centigrade temperatures and clear blue skies. This operator includes a visit to the geothermal power station at Nesjavellir which not all cover. Our trip was much enhanced by our guide, Hafdis, as she regailed us with stories and... more
We originally were going to go the golden circle route via bus however we had a last minute change and we ended up going on a super jeep tour which was fabulous! We had a driver and an interpreter and my husband and myself and one other couple. we hit all the hot spots the falls the geysirs but our... more
We did the Golden Circle tour in May in a rental car. We used the CD tour sold by Hertz at their airport location. The CD added interest and background to the sights although the map provided was less than adequate. In general we found good maps hard to come by in Iceland and spent plenty of time enjoying being... more
My husband and I went on the tour in March 2002. It was wonderful. The geisers were my favorite. I'd do it again in a minute! more
Although we hired a car, we chose to go on a operated tour for the Golden Circle trip. Expensive (we did choose to travel with the cheaper operator though), but we felt we had to just go for it, as we couldn't decide whether to drive and spoke to a few people who had been on the trip who had... more
We rented a car for the day and did a self-drive tour of the Golden Circle area. We started with Thingvellir, and then proceeded clockwise, around the lake, to Geysir and then Gullfoss. Our first walk was actually a stop on the upper part of Thingvellir, on Rt 36. It was nice to walk down into the chasm to Öxaráfoss.... more
Quite enjoyed this but didn't quite catch why we stopped at Eden, the greenhouse place. It appeared to me that the driver and guide wanted breakfast. It was quite amusing initially that the guide sang songs at every available opportunity (3 times), it was fine the first time then a bit boring the second and when she sang the third... more
We booked the tour with Iceland Excursions, the Gray Line local company, which is cheaper than the bigger Reykjavik Excursions, owned by Icelandair. They both cover the same route, which includes Pingveliir, Gullfoss, Geysir, Skalholt church, Kerio and Hvergaerdi (please excuse spellings). If you book direct with Gray Line in Reykjavik, not a booking service, you will get a AAA... more
We spent the first 10days of our honeymoon in Iceland. And the Golden Circle tour was the first of the holiday there. We were on a tour bus. And it rained every minute of the whole day. And yet it was magical. First of all, if you've never been to Iceland you should know most of the many organised tours... more
