In contast to the Gothic style of Stephansdom, Karlskirche is done in a beautiful Baroque style, with frescos on the ceiling. It has a domed roof and a beautiful high altar; you can take the stairs or elevator up to a scaffolding walk that allows you to get a closer view of the ceiling. The down side of that is... more

The Karlskirche on Karlsplatz is one of the most beautiful churches in Vienna. Unlike the more popular St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Karlskirche is surrounded by a plaza, slightly away from the Ring, so it's majestic dome and architecture can be appreciated more, even from further away. Beautifull baroquestyle church, especially the ceilingpaintings are worth the visit. You can take a look closeby via an elevator and stairs, which is a unique opportunity. This will only be possible as long as the restaurationworks last. more

The church is beautiful from the outside and has Islamic decor with teh two minarets. It was built in memory of the plague, and is truly beautiful inside with its many frescos and gigantic paintings. There is also a lift inside, but when I went to the church much of the inside was inder restoration and some of the paintings... more

It does have a strange appearance from outside with the tall columns. Inside is a large but not spectacular church with several chapels. Much more interesting are the ceiling murals. The church is an amazing dome example from the outside. Newer church by Vienna standards having been built in the 1700s. Wasn't able to get inside due to time.
