From a man who lives in Phi Phi the best advice I can give is dont do day tours; they all go to the same places at the same time, so course it is always crowded. Take a little time and make a little effort. Hire long tails, visit Nui Bay, Run Tee Beach, Bamboo and Mosquito Islands. You will... more

We went on a day tour of Phi Phi Island Thailand in Jan 2008. Being high season we expected some crowds but nothing like we experienced. It was ridiculous. At Maya Beach, one of the beautiful little beaches you stop at for about 30 minutes, we counted 28 speed boats just like ours, each full of tourists trying to experience... more

I was there in 2004 before the tsunami and it was wonderful. Hard to see how the whole island was almost wiped out during the disaster. The maze of shops were recent establishments, I believe by the tourism board to set up proper shops on the island. But somehow the soul of the place was so present that it is... more

These Islands are amazing both above and below the water. The movie the beach was filmed in Maya bay on Phi, Phi Ley. The main point of my trip there was to scuba dive but there way lots over other things to do on the island. The only down side is that it has gotten more developed in the past... more

We visited Phi Phi Island on a day trip from Phuket in August this year. It is a good trip over by ferry. The water is beautiful and the island is magnificent. The only thing is that so many people go. The island is packed and even the snorkling of shore is extremely crowded. If you can overcome this it... more

The MAPRAO RESORT in Koh Phi Phi is the best place to be: Excellent cheap accomodations, nice bungalows with toilet/shower and fan for 400-600 bahts only. The beach is white sandy and very clean ! The restaurant is excellent and they have a huge choice of food from thai to international. The cocktail lounge is offering more than 80 cocktails... more

We stayed here in July 2005, the effects of the tsunami are barely visible to the general tourist/backpacker until you head inland and then see were the locals live, they desperately need tourists to return in order to rebuild properly. the new hotels are really good, basic but thats what makesit nice, its not commercial and the locals are friendly.... more
