My husband and I went to Guatemala on our honeymoon. He had spent some time in Central America but this was my first trip. I was kind of put off by the store front travel agencies but my husband convinced me and we booked a tour for about $10US each. This included the van ride and a guide when we... more

I had limited time in Antigua but one thing I really wanted to do was hike the volcano areas. I had heard that bandits often hit the roads and parking lots and so I decided to go with a tour group called Gran Jaguar. I emailed them in advance and got a confirmation that they would pick me up at... more

Pacaya Volcano is just Amazing! If you want to go there remember to bring with you: long pants, jacket (is you go in the afternoon), flashlight, gloves (not kidding), hiking shoes, water and an adventure attitude. You will walk 3 Kilometers to get to this volcano, but these are not easy 3 K. Is very dust all the way up... more

I just returned from Antigua on July 27th. Comments around town were to be careful of your tour guide.. The cheapest services have been known to just drop you off and point out the direction of the volcano. Pay a little more and go with someone that will have a guide. more

If you're up to the challenge, you MUST do this tour. I actually climbed the volcano and stuck my hands inside the crator!! It was the most exhillerating, amazing experience of my life. The hike is EXTREMELY intense, not for physically weak people. But so worth it!! more

A must. Its an active volcano that is constantly erupting lava. You dont actually climb the volcano itself but rather a nearby hill that gets you close to the top. The loud thundering noise and watching the lava rocks tumble down the volcano is a sight to see. You can take day tours from Antigua. more
