To be honest, I did not know much about the Senso-ji Temple prior to visiting it and my Japanese host and friend felt the temple and the surrounding shopping/eating area would be worth the trip. After a tiring day of touring Tokyo (starting early with Tsukiji) we took the Toei Asakusa line to Asakusa station. The Sensoji temple was easy to find and the tourist information center located nearby was very helpful. The shopping area around the temple provided a lot of diversion. Since my inn was just a 10 minute walk from the Sensoji Temple, it was my favorite place to start the day, or rest after a day of sight seeing. If possible, see the temple in the early morning. An amazingly peaceful place in the morning mist as the sun rises. No stalls full of venders, no loud crowds. Just... more

i typically don't like touristy places, but here is one i enjoyed (though i guess it helps that i was there with great company). yes, it is a temple in a public market. the temple is interesting, though i found the market to be especially fun because of all the snacks and little trinkets along the way. shown in the... more
