As part of our trip to Borneo we arranged to spend 2 nights in Mt Kinabalu national park. I intended to climb the mountain but did not want to leave my pregnant wife at the base for too long so I decided to do the climb in 1 day. I was aware that this might be tiring and I would... more

Kota Kinabalu There's not much in this smaller Malaysian town to make it anything special though the small islands 20 minutes boat-ride off the coast are lovely. K-K is what the locals call it. Getting to Mt Kinabalu National Park You can easily enough arrange a local taxi to take you there. Look for a 'yellow top' taxi which are... more

This is my first trip to Mount Kinabalu, it was very fascinating and i enjoyed it a lot, we start our journey from the Timpohon Gate which is about 7KM trail to the Laban Rata, its take about 6 hours to reach the Laban Rata...a long the way, you can see a lot of different plant and view especially the... more

We were part of a fairly large private group who had everything pre- planned through a local agency. Fantastic deal - about RM1,000.00 (ground arrangements for 5 days 4 nights (2 at the park and 2 at Kota Kinabalu after the climb), airport transfers, accomodation and some meals, guide, park entrance fee and permit). Got picked up at the airport... more

Climbing up this mountain is a 2 day affair, only for those fit enough, though. If you are not fit, you would have trouble climbing to the peak. What you do is start on Day One at the foot hill, then walk up the path along with guides, stay overnight at Laban Rata, which is at 10,000 feet. They have... more

If you are reasonably fit and healthy and can endure a steady uphill climb for a whole day and then do the same at night time in the cold and the dark, then you should at least try and attempt to climb Mt Kinabulu. We booked a 3 day 2 night package with Sutera Sanctuary Lodges for about £50 each... more

My tip is that it is indeed worthwhile to stay at the Park the day and night before as it provides a nice rest, tranquil scenery and aids in aclimatisation as it is around 1500 mteres elevation. Arrive early and you can take in the numerous trails and sights around the park. They have a nice botanical garden which you... more

If you're an outgoing, active person and you're in Sabah, you owe it to yourself to climb Mt Kinabalu. It's certainly not the easiest trek you'll ever do but it's perhaps the most rewarding. As other tourists have said, the views from Low's Peak at sunrise are incredible and worth all the effort of climbing the mountain. Between four to... more

KK was absolutely amazing, sights were breathtaking, especially at sunrise and the next few hours after the descent as the sun rises and catches the rocky surfaces on different angles. You'll feel ontop of the world! Take plenty of snacks, dry clothes & ponchos, & leave early enough (9-10am) to enjoy the sights and get there in time to dry... more

Mount Kinabalu is the third highest mountain in Southeast Asia, with the highest peak at 4095.2m. The trek is divided into day one and day two starting from the Parks HQ. The climb is relatively ok without the need for climbing mountain gears. We have to embark on the summit climb on day 2 at 0245hrs in order to catch... more
