If you are heading to La Paz Waterfall Gardens to see Costa Rica in a NATURAL state, you will be disappointed. If you want to see some animals up close and enjoy waterfalls, you will like it. . We spent 3 nights at the hotel in February 2008 for our honeymoon. The gardens consist of animals in enclosed spaces and... more

Let me start by saying this: take this place for what it is. I am an avid hiker and hate to see wildlife caged or man-made structures around natural landscapes. That is what you will get here. That being said, I enjoyed this part of my trip as much as any other in Costa Rica. On our way from San... more

We loved the two nights we spent at La Paz. It was the highlight of our second trip to Costa Rica. Our room was top notch with a patio with a jacuzzi where you could see the hummingbirds coming to the feeder. In the room we had a waterfall in the shower, a large whirlpool bath, a canopy bed, a... more

We stayed at the Peace Lodge on property (FABULOUS), so were fortunate to be able to visit the grounds at will. If you're not staying here, it is well worth a day trip visit from SJ or on the way to Arenal. We walked around late in the day and early the next morning, so never experienced crowds. I will... more

This was a great activity for adults and kids alike. The park has all the plants, animals and waterfalls you are hoping to see in CR. We wore good walking shoes, because you do go up and down trails. There is a full service/buffet style cafeteria that was good and reasonable priced. Go early in the morning, because tour buses... more

We visited La Paz Waterfalls and Gardens enroute to the Arenal Volcano area. What was planned as a simple side trip designed to help break up our 3-4 hour drive, turned out to be one of our trip highlights. The place is more like a park or zoo with multiple attractions that bring the best of Costa Rica wildlife and... more

We just got back from a wonderful honeymoon in Costa Rica. On our way back to San Jose we stopped by the waterfall gardens b/c we had read they were "amazing" in a few of our guide books. Sure--it is amazing, if amazing is crowded tour buses, birds in cages and all signs trying to point you to spend money... more

We spent a few short hours at La Paz and wish we had more time; from the Butterfly Observatory to the Hummingbird Garden, the Ranarium to the trails by La Paz River, there is a lot to see here! Although there is a great butterfly haven in Chicago, we really enjoyed the Butterfly Observatory here... there is a lot of... more

La Paz is very worthwhile to visit just for the many species of birds that flock naturally to the highlands. The butterfly exhibit, and frog exhibit are really incredible, too!! It is probably the best value to get a guided tour and pickup through San Jose ($60 I believe for an adult) which includes the lunch buffet. I went to... more
