While I typically wouldnt visit a cemetery as a tourist, I am fascinated by this one. It is much like a little city and the architecture is unique for each tomb. It is truly a place to go when in BA because of its rich history and interesting design. Our group (9 people) all were happy to have gone and... more

There were no free maps going but some lady was selling maps of the cemetery for 4 pesos. I just followed the crowd to Evita's grave which was straight into the middle of the place then turn left about 3/4 into the cemetery. It is in the family name of Duarte and can survive a nuclear bomb with trap doors... more

The entrance and tours of the Cementerio de la Recoleta are free, and they are very informative and interesting. The site is beautiful (as odd as that may sound), and it is full of history...The tour guides are very knowlegeable and willing to answer questions...Eva Peron's body is here, although totally hidden...There are other beautiful monumets to see as well...Very... more

I have been in Buenos Aires for over a month now. I am here writing a book and am doing research about the Cemetery in Recoleta. In order to help me find out as much information, I have taken 6 different tours of the Cemetery. Each one has offered me a new piece of information. There are so many interesting... more

I was in Buenos Aires for a week around a month ago during my travels around South America. One day I decided to go and check out the Recoleta Cemetery to see what all the fuss was about. It was beautiful certainly, but I was a little bored because I had no idea who any of the people were with... more

My husband and I went to the Cementerio de la Recoleta last month. We decided to go to Recoleta on our own and stroll around the cemetery. Outside the front entrance a young woman handed us a very nice and free map of the cemetery. A young man who was with her handed us a tract about Aids and explained... more

I just took a tour of the cemetary the other day, with a guide from Cemetary. (The prior day a city tour had walked us to Evita´s grave.) The cemetary is a very beatiful collection of monuments, statutes and history. I highly recommend that folks who want to see and hear a little more than Evita´s burial try to get... more

I went to the cemetary in Recoleta - though looking back on it - I don't know why. Dead people have never been an interest of mine. It is absolutely massive, and the tombs are very ornate but thats as far as it goes. Everyone heads to Evita's tomb (which is nothing to write home about), then just wander round... more

In photographs, the cemetery looks like a small city. In reality, it is a city of the dead. Each tomb is different from the next. My first visit was on a sunny day (shortly after Christmas 2005) and many tourists were walking around looking for Evita's tomb. Evita's family tomb is beautiful but not outstanding or memorable. I visited again... more
