The Griffith Observatory was one of the coolest things we did in LA. The only other one I've ever been to was the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. OK, that one was cooler, but this one was good too. Our north Hollywood hotel wasn't exactly tailored towards tourists so when we asked about how to get the shuttle that I've... more

Yeah, the title says it all: A free thing to do that's actually pretty neat in LA. Who'd have thought of it?? Yes, the parking is free, but if you don't get there early enough it is likely you'll have to park at the bottom of a hill and walk up it. It's not strenuous, but anybody who is averse... more

I loved the observatory. The view is amazing! It is on top of the Hollywood hills so you can see all of Los Angeles and get a great view of the Hollywood sign. We went at night and back again during the day to see the view at both times. You no longer have to take a shuttle, but they... more

We just spent a day wandering around The Griffith Park Observatory. Entrance was free. They are closed on Mondays. Walk right up to the front and someone will tell you to ignore the signage that says it is not an entrance. The view of Los Angeles was great. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The building is beautiful since the... more

On September 11th, my Mother and I made the long and laborious journey up to the observatory to see the show. It was a Tuesday, we had the first shuttle tickets of the day, and so only had a short hot wait in the long line to board the trams. When they finally opened the doors, they casually announced that... more

June 30th , 2007 If you are planning a trip to the Griffith Park Observatory please be aware that the only way to get to the Observatory is by taking the shuttle bus that leaves from the Los Angeles Zoo parking lot and another one that leaves from a Hollywood street location. I can remember when you used to be... more

If you're bored easily by science exhibits, then this probably isn't the place for you. However, if finding out how much you weigh on Neptune or getting a live view of Venus through a powerful telescope sounds like an interesting way to pass your afternoon, definitely don't miss the Griffith Observatory. First off, admission is free, but it's $8/person to... more

What a wonderful place to visit, and I highly recommend a stop if in LA. The shuttle bus isn't a great system, but it works. The ride from teh Griffith Park parking lot (near the zoo) to the observatory was close to 30 minutes. Once at the observatory, the views are amazing - great views of the valley, downtown, and... more

Why go? They have a great location, an interesting building and lots of information on the night sky. Griffith Observatory sits atop the hills near the Hollywood Sign. The view could be spectacular on a clear day but on a foggy (smoggy?) day it is still nice. During my visit it was accessible only via shuttle. There was no drive-up... more

I suggest getting there early as it tends to get crowded after noontime. I thought the exhibits within the Observatory were pretty boring.Lots of reading and pictures that didn't necessarily impress me. The views of LA were amazing. And i loved the Planetarium Show. MUST SEE! get there early because tickets sell out regularly. And if you go all the... more
