Miners on the Comstock wanted more that a trip down a shaft into a steamy tunnel for their children. They collected funds to build a state-of-the-art school for them and presented it to the citizens of Virginia City. It was very interesting to see how they preserved this place and had many artifacts inside that really made you take a step back in time. Well worth seeing and spending some time here. You can almost feel what it was like way back when the school was used. more

I visited this museum May, 07. This is a beautiful restored building on the outside. The inside is restored but the layout of the rooms and hallways were left as they were "back in the day". this old school house was very interesting to visit; i had a strange feeling during my entire 2 plus hours of walking about the school rooms that we were being watched by the "spirits of school children past"; what a charming place and all its history... more
