Man oh man what a great place to visit. The tour starts out with a great 20 minute video about the Stax history. Afterward's you go into the museum part. The first thing you encounter is an old church removed from the Delta region and replaced here. It was awesome, so rich in southern history. It tells about the musical... more

If you are a music lover, make sure you get to Soulsville, USA, aka Stax Museum of American Soul Music when you visit Memphis. While I would be more than happy if the Museum only featured the legendary Stax/Volt artists, you also get exhibits on musicians from other labels like Motown and Hi. It's a pretty comprehensive exhibit of key... more

We spent 90 minutes at the Stax Museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. We learnt a great deal regarding the artists, the founders and the historic context of the music. We purchased a CD and could not stop tapping/singing along to the fantastic music. A great afternoon in Memphis!! more

A wonderful experience. I learned so much about the origins and development of R&B music. Informative and fun exhibits - the clothing and objects are such fun. Isaac Hayes' wonderful 1970's Caddy with white shag carpet, TV and gold-plated everything, including seatbelt latches was the ultimate! You'll leave inspired. Don't miss it. more

This museum is great. We visited it on the recommendation of a waiter - thank you, waiter!! I loved it as much as I loved Sun Studios and would definitely recommend taking an hour or two to browse through here if you're in Memphis. The exhibits are fantastic and informative, the employees are great, and the gift shop has some... more

Stax is a very cool tribute to soul. We had a tour that took us to Sun, Stax and Graceland. I liked all of the places on the tour, but Stax the best. They show a very informative movie when you walk in. The museum is absolutely beautiful, very modern and all brand new. The displays are really cool. I... more

This museum is far cooler than any other I have ever visited. Where else can you see Isaac Haayes gold plated Eldorado, Albert King's first guitar and Otis Redding's favorite suede jacket. Good history lessons and displays on how music evolved from the churches to the fields and migrated north. If you're a music fan and only have one place... more

We visited Stax as part of our Backbeat Bus tour in April 2007. This was a great self-guided tour for the whole family - including grandparents and teenagers! The tour starts with a short film highlighting how Stax became a multi-million dollar recording studio and who the artists were that created that unique Memphis Soul music vibe. The film includes... more
