My wife and I enjoyed most of our visit to George Washington's Mount Vernon estate. We found the presentations well done and informative. The info provided via the audio tour was worth the extra cost ($6). The one exception was the "behind the scenes" National Treasurers tour. In case you haven't seen the movie, some scenes from the second Nicholas... more

Mount Vernon is a great way to spend a few hours, or an entire day. The grounds are wonderfully maintained, and the staff goes out of their way to interact with guests (during our visit a man in period costume was playing games of the time period with children on the bowling green). The house, though relatively small, gives you... more

We spent a lovely morning at Mount Vernon. However, as we don't know the area, whilst driving down the road to the planation, we parked and paid for the Distillery visit - thinking we we at an entrance to the location. Not so. It's abount 2 miles further down the same road. Once parked, we paid for our entry and... more

I loved everything about Mount Vernon. My only regret was not being able to spend more time! We only had about 2-1/2 hrs but I could have easily spent 4-5. The history is outstanding - you can actually feel it! The grounds are stunning and the house itself is well-preserved. Just to know you are standing or walking in exactly... more

Took the Metro to the last stop. We were going to take the bus to Mount Vernon, but instead took a taxi. I would recommend the audio guide. Nice place. The pathways are not cemented through out, which on a nice day would not be a problem, however when we visited it had rained the day before and the gravel... more

My family biked here last month from old town Alexandria. It was the highlight of our trip. The bike trail was very nice and flat until the last half mile. About a 10 mile trip from our hotel. We arrived by 9 am and the line for mansion was already forming so we were directed by a helpful volunteer to... more

I have visited many historic homes, and many presidential homes, but nothing compares to the education center at Mt. Vernon. When you are done, you will not only have visited a beautiful home, but have a new understanding of the quality of man that was our first president. This is a top location according to a large sample of 5th... more

Beautiful, educational and impressive. We would do it again. By far better than Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg combined The cruise is relaxing and worth the money (Just to look at the area) more

We recently visited Mount Vernon, spending about 4 hours there. Of course, you can spend a lot more time. In particular, we regretted not being able to dine at the Inn, which closed before we were finished with the grounds and the museums. Next time, for sure -- I definitely want to try colonial food, which the inn is apparently... more

Visited in late December around Christmas hoping to see lovely decorations for the season. They don't do much decorating other than boughs of holly above interior doorways and an apple topiary decoration on the dining table. Learned that the Christmas tree tradition didn't begin until the 19th century. The house and tour are very interesting. Allow a few hours to... more
