We've taken over 15 whale watching trips with Captain Steve's over the past few years and highly recommend it. Previously, we went out with Pacific Whale Foundation, but didn't enjoy the large boats and large crowds. Captain Steve's is a much more enjoyable time. You are closer to the water which means closer to the whales. The boat is fast,... more

3/22/08 Maui, Captain Steve's. Capt Steve's was a fun day on the beautiful Maui waters exploring two of its treasures, reefs and Cetaceans (whales, porpoises and dolphins). My 16 yr old son and I had a great time. And like most teens, he's not easy to engage. Captian Dennis and mate (jolly)Holly were first rate, openly friendly, fun and informed,... more

Captain Steve's Whale Watch - excellent February, 2008 We have been on Capt. Steve's whale watch many times. He is very knowledgable about the whales and takes the boat to where they are spotted. He observes the rule of not getting within 100yds. of the whales but many times the whales come to him. This last whale watch was the... more

Having had the opportunity to go on a few trips with Captain Steve in 2006, my wife and I booked a trip every day we were in Maui (early Feb 08). We also took a snorkeling trip with his crew on Wednesday. Every day we went out we saw whales, some days better than others, but always close encounters. Captain... more

My husband and I went on Captain Steve's whale watching tour out of Lahaina, Maui, on Jan. 15, 2008. We saw a lot of whales, including 3 or 4 which breached near the boat. However, I suspect this had more to do with the high number of whales in the area rather than any skill on the part of "Captain... more

This is our third time on maui and lanai and do not often do organised trips, but we were very keen to 'whale watch'- someone recommended Captain Steve, so we we went on the early afternnoon trip - WOW!! what a revelation we were soon among whales: a baby and adults swimming close and under the boat- the crew were... more

We went on 2 whale watching trips. After the first one we were going to book a snorkel trip but it wasn't available the following day and we only had 1 day left, so we went on the 2nd whale watch. Saw lots of whales. The boat was really cool too! It was able to speed up to the whales.... more

I don't normally do tourist activities, since I live here in Hawaii and they tend to be expensive. But I had my family visiting from out of town and had heard some good things about Captain Steve's whale watches from friends. It was an amazing trip! The whales came up to the boat to check us out. We had several... more

My wife and I did this in October of 2006 and I have to say it was pretty bad. First let me say that I understand that nature will do whatever it decides and not on our schedule, however, the day we did our dolphin tour there were no dolphins and not really much else. I would have been okay... more

I read Kayger12's review and decided to book a trip, mostly because of his well outlined "3 reasons" to go with Captain Steve. The service over the phone was informative and helpful. I was planning to bring my 8 and 5 year old on the trip. I was reassured of the availability of appropriate sized life vests. As the review... more
