Beautiful place along the water, full of shopping stores, street performers, restaurants and it also has an aquarium that worth a visit (ideal if travelling with kids). This place is far more touristy than when I went as a kid. It's mostly just an overpriced shopping center. The "Only in San Francisco" shop is great for decently priced souvenirs. If your looking for big crowds and over-commercialization, Pier 39 is the answer. Sure it's got some cool souvenirs but that's about it. The over-priced food is fit only for tourists. Unless you're really into shopping for useless souvenirs, you probably won't dig Pier 39. more
