I took a day long tour out of the Thunderbird Lodge. The often referred to "shake and bake" truck tour. Shaking was minimal, and since it was April, no baking. One of the most wonderful places I've ever seen. You can drive ino the canyon, as opposed to just looking down into it. That gives you a completely different perspective. FYI --- Contrary to a number of postings, the public is allowed free access (no fees -- no guides) to the "White House" ruins which is accessible from the south rim drive (w/ parking lot above). This ruin is down a 600 foot vertical descent (+/- 1/3rd of a mile) trail and is worth the hike. more
