Once Upon a Nation offers quite a few tours. My sisters and I chose the Independence After Hours tour. I was very pleased with it. We gathered at the Independence Living Center and walked to the City Tavern with our host (in period costume) Isaac. He was pretty entertaining on his own. A visit to Independence Hall should be on every Philadelphia visitor's list of must-see attractions. Tickets are free and are available at the Visitor's Center. When you stand in line for tickets, there will be a sign that tells you what time the next available tour is--usually 2 hours ahead. For example, we arrived at 11:45 a.m. and they were... more

Let me second the recommendation for the Once Upon a Nation storytelling benches. They are fun, informative, entertaining, and really get you in the Colonial Philadelphia mood! Check their website at --- for more info. -MIchael more

Independence National Historical Park is often referred to as the most historic square mile in America. It is also a very pleasant area to stroll around in, even in summer, with numerous trees to provide shade.
