We went to school near there for 4 years and the older visitor's center left much to be desired. We were totally blown away by the new visitors center at the military park - you could easily spend an entire day there, and it's free for the most part. It was amazing. more

We just came back almost two weeks ago from Gettysburg and we still can't get it out of our minds. My boys are 15,16 and 19 and they had no idea about the events of Gettysburg. We all just went because I thought it would be a great historical vacation. What a great trip we had. We initially only had... more

We paid for the guided tour and it was money well spent. Our guide asked where we were from and tailored the tour to us, including our states monument. It was very interesting and made our whole trip worthwhile. This is a MUST SEE. more

We live in PA and have been to Gettysburg many, many times and it goes without saying that it is a moving experience so this review is just on the new visitors center that recently opened and replaced the old, somewhat sad, previous one. The new center is a magnficent set up with an inviting dining area, complete with a... more

The National Parks are a treasure to this country. Gettysburg should not be missed. Our kids are ages 8,10, and 12. We purchased an auto tour CD at the visitor center titled "Dramatized Audio Tour". Take time to look because I later learned there were different versions and a different one might have met our needs better. Regardless, we prepared... more

Having done some reading prior to going, I was emotionally moved by the areas in the Military Park. The visitor center is great and the new movie with Morgan Freeman narrating is excellent. Make sure to set aside time to for the Museum in the visitor center. It is excellent as well. A large group, including teenagers and children, sat... more

Went to Gettysburg on 7/25/08. We hired the licensed tour guide for a 2.5 hour car trip and it was well worth the money. Without his explaining and showing us what went on where, I don't think we would have truly understood the battle. I think some sort of guide is necessary. be it personal, bus or audio tour, to... more

First Gettysburg was amazing, despite all the crowds. It's not really useful to say the same things that reviewers have said, so I will try to add some other useful things. We got the audio tour sponsored by The History Channel, it is $20 but it is 2 CDs and comes with a book. It is very engaging and explains... more

"Silence and respect" are the simple words on the sign as you enter the Soldiers' Cemetery in Gettysburg. It is a phrase that aptly describes the wonderful way in which the NPS has developed and maintained the national park here. The battlefields, the monuments, the new visitors' center with its museum and movie -- all convey such honor to the... more
