If you've already seen half a dozen documentaries on the subject, you're bound to be let down by this museum. While some of the artifacts are interesting, the displays are fairly ordinary and unimaginative. A 360-degree "Experience Omaha Beach" room (with simulated sights and sounds) would have been a good idea, and I just thought of it this minute; why... more

i liked this museum. i'm a history buff but i think you'd like it even if you weren't. you start out watching a film. its about 45 minutes long. i didnt realize it until i saw a couple people get up and leave. your perspective will determine if its long or short. the building is 3 levels. the first floor... more

You need a whole day to savor everything in this museum. My husband and I are not museum people usually, but this one is so interesting and unique. more

Affiliated with the Smithsonian, and it shows. Another building is to be constructed across the street from the present one. Its possible to spend all day here. We talked to a Omaha Beach veteran, I made sure my son shook his hand - there aren't many left. The other reviews say it all. This was more than I expected. I... more

My grandfather served in WW2 and this museum brought back many of his stories. It is incredibly well done and well presented. Lots of audio and video, too, which makes it a bit more interactive than many museums. Bravo to New Orleans for getting this museum and for hosting it. Combined with the Ogden Art Museum (across street in warehouse... more

Just spent 4.5 hours there and was simply blown away (no pun intended). I grew up around men who fought in both the European and Pacific theatres, They had very little to say about their participation in the conflict but, this museum brings their story a little closer to home. I have visited Normandy and it was awe-inspiring to see... more

Very impressive displays, artifacts, and personal letters from servicemen and women. Follows WWII from Pearl Harbor to VJ day. Be prepared for some very disturbing photos and video, and personal oral histories from both Japanese and American soldiers and sailors. We left feeling emotionally drained. My dad served in the Navy and never liked talking about the war. I have... more

The D-Day museum was one of the main reasons we came to New Orleans. We were not at all disappointed: on a three-day vacation, we visited twice (one afternoon for the Pacific theater, one for the European theater). My husband and I visit a lot of historical sites and musuems, and this museum was by far the best we've ever... more

We allowed about 2 1/2 hours for this museum and we were the last to leave when they locked the doors at 5:00. My husband is the history buff and I wasn't really looking forward to this but he had tolerated the Mardis Gras Museum earlier in the day. Another must see. I degress. What I found so fasinating about... more
