1. Bela Lugosi's star
Bela Lugosi's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Ivar Street. Lugosi was the suave, sophisticated Hungarian villain or hero in dozens of classic horror films, among them Dracula (1931), White Zombie(1933), Son of Frankenstein (1939) and many, many others. He wasn't always a scary guy... he also starred in Ninotchka (1939) with Greta Garbo.
2. The Ennis-Brown House in the Los Feliz neighborhood near Griffith Park
In the 1920s, Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home that looks more like a Mayan temple . It served as a party home for his client. Its very odd, with closets 10 feet off the ground and dog houses that match the house! The exterior of this fascinating home was used in The House on Haunted Hill (1960), starring Vincent Price. The home is owned by a preservation group which maintains it by giving tours by appointment. It is located on Glendower Avenue.
3. Hollywood Book and Poster Company
Hollywood Book and Poster Company, located at 6562 Hollywood Boulevard, sells posters, lobbycards, scripts, books and magazines. It's not all about monsters, but there are plenty of them! Witches, ghouls, aliens and Plan Nine From Outer Space... they're all here.
See the Bates Motel and house where Norman Bates (Anthony Hopkins) provided a lodger with a shower we will never forget. Be covered in "bugs" in the Mummy's tomb ride. See the famed Phantom Stage (unfortunately, only a drive-by) where Lon Chaney, Senior performed in the unforgettable silent Phantom of the Opera. Be pounced upon by Bruce from Jaws.
5. Bronson Cave
Located in Griffith Park, this old quarry site was a hideout for so many movie monsters I can't keep track of all of them. They include the outer space creatures of It Conquered the World (1958) and The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2004) as well as cavemen in the spoof Dinosaur Valley Girls (1994).
