Six day trip to Hershey, PA and surrounding sites

1. Hampton Inn & Suites Hershey

Fabulous hotel for families. Free breakfast every morning with different hot entrees each day. Indoor pool. Suites available for parents who want a seperate room. We used this hotel as our hub and then took day trips to the surrounding areas of PA. Most destinations were only 30-40 minutes away. Crayola was the farthest at 1 1/2 hours. |

2. Hershey's Chocolate World

| Great attraction for young kids. Our two girls ages 4 and 5 loved the automated tour taking you through the process of chocolate making. The chocolate tasting 101 was also a hit as was seeing the characters. We would pass on the trolley ride next time. |

| Great amusement park for kids of all ages. So many rides for my 4 and 5 year olds we didn't have time to ride them all. Food of course outrageously expensive and not very good. |

| Only a few minutes from Hershey, the caverns were interesting to tour. The kids were a litte spooked at times. Not the kids favorite place but hopefully they learned a few things about stalagtites and stalagmites. |

5. Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery

| Adorable old fashioned pretzel bakery where patrons get to twist their own pretzel and receive an "official pretzel twister" certificate. The kids will remember this one! |

| Fun for young kids, Crayola is about 1 1/2 hours from Hershey. We spent 4-5 hours in Easton, between the Crayola factory, the Pez museum and the National Canal Museum. Older children may be bored. Totally hands on arts and crafts center. Wrap your own crayon during the crayon making demonstration. |

| This was a true surprise. My kids loved it. They have a large room with a huge waterway with locks that you can push a toy boat through. They wanted to do it again and again. Upstairs from the Crayola Factory. |

| Really neat four story teddy bear store with build your own bear center. Fun to do after "boring" Gettysburg visitor center. |
|
|

| Do not waste your time at the Visitor Center with young kids. They were BORED out of their minds. When the Cyclorama opens maybe it will be worth a trip. |

10. Land of Little Horses Farm Park, Gettysburg, PA
|

| Please skip this attraction. It is a miniature horse farm in which they put on horse shows and give pony rides. The llama in the show looked like he was about to collapse. The farm nor its animals seem in very good condition. It cost $50 for four of us to get in. It was not worth it. |

11. Strasburg Railroad Company
|
|
| Passenger train ride through the Amish Country of PA. We sat on the dining car and had lunch. Fun experience for the kids. I don't think the beautiful scenery was fully appreciated by the kids but we loved it. |

12. Buggy ride, Lancaster County, Amish Country
|
|
| Fun for kids and adults alike. Driver of buggy provides narrative about Amish life as you ride though the countryside. My four year old got to hold the reins. We stopped at an Amish homestead for homemade rootbeer. |

13. Wolfgang Candy Company
|
|
| This would have been a great tour except there was no production going on when we arrived. They apparently do not run the factory much over the summer and then they crank back up in the fall. You do get an up close view of how the candies are made, packaged and stored. |
