Ave price: $275
Exceptional luxury hotel in the heart of downtown Montreal
Fabulous coffee, croissants, muffins, and sandwiches.
Decadent breakfast spot in the Latin Quarter specializing in crepes (try the banana with chocolate) and Cafe Au Lait.
4. Old Montreal (Vieux-Montreal)
Great place to sightsee, get a feel for the way Montreal used to be, and do a little souvenier shopping. Beautifully lit up at night, though no stores are open.
Historically famous pub serving mediocre pub grub and average beers. Tourist trap you can easily miss.
6. Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Musee des Beaux-Arts)
Well-laid out and attractively done museum. Smaller than expected, but worth a look.
Fabulous Italian restaurant where the waiters treat you like family. Best Italian food I've ever had. Try the spumoni ice cream- it's incredible.
Great Cappuccino- the breakfast left something to be desired. Stick with the coffee and avoid the croissants (passable, but you can find much better in the area).
9. Roots Canada
The equivalent of the Canadian Gap with lots of fun t-shirts, sweats, and hats. THE place for fashionable souveniers.
Supposedly the best place to get "smoked meat" in Montreal. If you're from New York, skip it, it's a long line for a corned beef sandwich. If not, it's an excellent lunch and a bargain at $5 a sandwich.
11. Notre-Dame Basilica (Basilique Notre-Dame)
We never made it to this one b/c there are weddings all day Saturday (until 3) and masses through Sunday. The books don't tell you this, but go during the week when this isn't an issue.
Fun zoo in a natural environment- fun for adults who love animals and families with children.
Cool in some parts, boring in others. This is basically an underground mall with a fancy name.
Interesting to see a Canadian university. Staff and students are extremely friendly and willing to help you navigate the campus.
