Slighly disappionted by this ryokan! Looking at the website photos we were expecting a better place. It needs a bit of work done to it since it's worn out! I don't think that it adds extra charm/caracter to the place! Our room was near to the busy road which gave us no sleep whatsoever on our first night. We had... more
We stay 3 nights there. It is calm for Tokyo and it is worth it. Nice and clean but no contact with the japanese family there, just to check in and check out. However 10-15mn walk from Ueno station. Rooms look japanese, bath not. Some rooms are with bath and some other not. Fridge, tea, internet as disposal. more
Ryokan Katsutaro is not the fanciest place in the world, but considering it's price and location it's a wise choice for the budget traveler. We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip to Japan and were happy with it. The inn is run by a friendly smiling middle-aged Japanese couple who didn't seem to know much English... more
We have just returned from an amazing family holiday to Japan. We spent 3 nights at the Ryokan Katsutaro and enjoyed it immensely. It is fantastic value for money and positioned in a quieter part of Tokyo. We are a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 young children) and enjoyed the Japanese style room and the experience of sleeping... more
We had a Japanese room (with a bathroom) that was a very good size. The owners didn't speak English but they were very patient and helpful in dealing with us. They're obviously used to coping with useless foreigners. There are two computers in the lobby for the use of guests and green tea on offer in your room. The immediate... more
We stayed here on the last day before we head out of Japan. The place was not that far from the nearest Metro station, < 5 minutes walk. And Ueno Station is just 15-20 minutes walk away. The room was clean and was larger than other Ryokan that we stayed. It was very clean and the attached bathroom was very... more
We stayed here for 4 nights in July. The room was small, but suited our purposes, as we were rarely there. The price was pretty good for Tokyo. The bathroom was small, which was typical of everywhere we stayed in Japan. The bathtub was not sealed, and as a result, there was mold growing all around it. There was free... more
We stayed 6 nights at Ryokan Katsutaro while we were in Tokyo, in the double room with private bath, and we loved it! The ryokan is about a 10-minute walk from the JR Ueno station, but it is so pretty walking by Ueno park that we did not mind at all. The room and private bathroom was tidy and spotless.... more
We used the Katsutaro ryokan as our base for a 4 night stay in Tokyo in January 2007. The ryokan is located about 10-15 minutes' walk from Ueno station, but there is a little bus that takes you from right next to the ryokan to the station in about 3 minutes, every 10 minutes, for just 100 yen. The bus... more
