I picked this hotel in the believe that I was going to find the quality of a Melia Hotel, but it was far from that. The air conditioning was broken so they put us in another room and next day was the same story. The worst of all, the last afternoon of my stay, somebody stole from my room a... more
5 star hotel no I dont think so. The rooms were filthy, and we checked several just incase there had been a mistake. Yes we were told that it is a third world country, but get real, it should be clean! I could not go in the bathroom for fear of catching something, electrical fitments hanging off the walls, carpets... more
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in the last week in May. We found no problem with the staff nor with the buffet restaurant. The hotel is a little run down, but this is Havana not New York or London. Cuba is classed as a 'Third World' country so don't expect everything to be as it is in other,... more
Cuba is a great place to holiday, Havana Libre Hotel is the opposite, do not stay at this hotel, the experience will spoil your vacation. Dirty bedrooms, bathrooms & corridors. Air conditioning that doesn't work and breakfast that beggars belief. I'm keeping this short the Tryp Habana Libre should be avoided if you have a reservation cancel! Take a look... more

This Hotel used to be the Hilton, opened by Paris's grand father in 1958. Castro drank here, Delores Del Rio stayed here as did Carmen Miranda. The wonderful aspect of this property is that it by-passed the refurb phases of the 70's & 80's and now has stepped graciously out in the 21st century wonderfully original & architecturally fascinating. The... more
We have just returned from a fantastic honeymoon in Cuba. Whilst in Cuba, we decided to go on the Havana overnight trip. This was an excursion booked through our tour operator First Choice. We ended up staying at this "5*" hotel. Where do we begin? This hotel was not our option, it was allocated on arrival. When we were driving... more
I don’t think you travel to Havana for luxury so the faults of the hotel kind of added to the whole fun of the experience. I don’t normally approach hotels like this but I guess it was all quite humorous and what you come to expect everywhere in Cuba, which really is poor and underprivileged. The hotel rooms are large,... more
If for whatever reason you do find yourself staying in the Tryp Havana Libre, it is best NOT to visit the Hotel Nacional, just a couple of blocks away; you will find yourself disgruntled and spend the rest of your stay wondering why on earth you've been plonked in the Havana Libre and not the Nacional. From the mostly grumpy... more
