Although this may be the reason why so many people love Casa Colonial, the main reason that we did not like it is that it is too colonial. If you believe in tourism with a social conscience, this is not the place to go. Your money goes into the pocket of the American owner, rather than a local person. The... more

Casa Colonial is not the Camino Real. And there are flaws -- no locks on the doors, no pool, no air conditioning, and it's a few extra blocks from the center of Oaxaca. But it has things that few other places can match: character, charm, care of the visitor. If you want to experience true Oaxacan culture instead of a... more

Let me start by saying that we stayed at Casa Colonial during the first half of our trip. by the second half, we really missed Casa Colonial. We stayed at a beautiful casa on the beach in st agustinillo during the last 4 days of our vacation. Aside from the beauty and cleanliness, virtually everything else that is important for... more

Casa Colonial is a treat to visit, as it is a historical site and, as such, is a window into the past. Jane, the owner, and her bilingual administrator Amado went way beyond the call of duty to make our stay in Oaxaca adventuresome and enjoyable. They provided us with insider information about where to go in Oaxaca, what to... more

The Casa Colonial was an incredible place to stay. The rooms were very comfortable with very friendly and attentive staff. They had large bottles of filtered water available at all times which is a big plus in Oaxaca. The managers were very knowledgable about Oaxaca and the surrounding villages to visit. They had personal guides that were made available to guest... more

I have been to every continent and to almost every country in this world as part of my livelihood as and entertainer and also for vacations. Suffice it to say, at this point in my life, it is extremely hard for me to find someplace that I find unique.....that thrills me. As a gift to me for my birthday, my... more

I’ve spent nearly five months thinking about this review…not for lack of things to say, but for the full flavor of savoring my week long stay at Casa Colonial from many sides. Its charm and beauty are soothing to the soul. Its owners and staff, its library, its very existence as a calm oasis in the midst of a land... more

Based on advice on TripAdvisor, we first tried for Casa de las Bugambilias, but they were full. Casa Colonial was our second choice. Once we arrived in Oaxaca and saw both B&Bs, we were so happy that we had a chance to stay at Casa Colonial; we thought it was much more charming than Casa de las Bugambilias. Having a... more

Our family has just returned from a week-long visit to Oaxaca, which we found to be a beautiful, thoroughly engaging city. Our experience was enhanced considerably by the kind attentions of the Casa Colonial staff: From Amado, the manager, who helped us plan our days with tireless enthusiasm, to Theresa and the other cooks who prepared and served our breakfasts... more

My first impression when i got to the casa was disappointment as from their website and the reviews on trip advisor i was expecting the place to be a bit prettier. However, even if the accommodation was a bit basic, the garden was lovely and a nice place to relax after a busy day out and about. Jane is really... more
