First off, this is not an international luxury hotel--Las Mariposas is a small, locally operated hotel in a great location in Oaxaca. My dad and I were traveling together in the end of May 2008 and he ended up staying here for ten days as I was doing a homestay not far away. Although my homestay was enjoyable, I was... more

It was clean beyond clean, safe (that women can walk alone after dark) and easy to get around the city. Half a block from Llano Park, 3 blocks to Santo Domingo church where performances are most every night on an outdoor stage and 6 or 8 blocks to the Zocalo. Markets on street corners and major markets at certain locations... more

We were a little disappointed after reading the reviews. We were shown to our double room which was so small you would have had to step over the suitcases to get in and out of bed. I requested a bigger room and was taken to a lovely room at no extra cost. However, it opened onto the breakfast area that... more

I stayed at Las Mariposas for 5 days the end of February / beginning of March 2008. Las Mariposas turned out to be exactly what I needed. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable and the service warm and quite helpful. In an earlier review the person was complaining about the noise. Las Mariposas has 2 courtyards. The front... more

We stayed at Mariposas for 4 nights. It's a cozy place. The rooms are spare but comfortable and it's in a neighborhood that's easily accessible by foot to the zocalo, but much quieter than the zocalo. The staff could not have been more kind and accomodating. They let us call free to the US when we had a problem with... more

Rereading these reviews makes me wonder whether we stayed at the real Las Mariposas. We were in Studio 1, which opens right on the breakfast patio where breakfast begins early and is noisy. Having a number of Americans and Canadians talking loudly several metres from your room door is hardly a relaxing Oaxacan experience. The Studio was very small with... more

I stayed 3 days in the very lovely Las Mariposas. The place is beatiful, with a nice garden. I took a small room, but there was more with kitchen and more beds. The manager (i think the name was Ana) is really friendly, she gave us a lot of tips to move in the city and they have a 10%... more

We just spent 5 nights at Las Mariposas. It is a gorgeous and homey place with comfortable beds, plenty of hot water, it's wonderfully quiet and provided a delicious and generous breakfast. The location was perfect, near the spectacular Santo Domingo church and a short walk to the Zocalo. Teresa, the owner/manager, is very helpful and warmly gracious. I would... more

I came for a week, and ended up staying three. I fell in love with Oaxaca and its surroundings, and Las Mariposas was my comfortable base camp for it all. Things I loved about Las Mariposas: I found it spotlessly clean, friendly, secure, there was endless hot water, two courtyards with gurgling fountains, Wi-Fi, and free breakfast. The breakfast was... more

This is a nice place to stay near Santo Domingo, about 8 blocks or so north of the zocalo. Our room was pretty basic but nice and clean, located on the 2nd floor with a nice patio to sit out on. It's quite sunny in the mornings however but we are early risers anyway. Below us was another patio with... more
