Don't book a standard room as they are very dated, I don't mind chintz but the furniture was covered with a horrible bottle green plastic and the carpet was filthy. I complained and was offered a tiny single room or a room with a four poster bed but both alternative rooms were tiny and not any better. I ended up... more

This hotel looks amazing from outside, until you get to your room! Room was tiny, very hot and dirty. The carpet was worn, there was brown stains on the bed sheets, cigarette burns on the carpet. They gave us room 33, which is next door to the lift motor room, very noisy all night. Just under the window was the... more

This hotel is very quaint and pretty, with georgeous scenery. Me and my husband went for an Easter Break for two nights from the 21st March to 23rd March. We stayed in the Luxury Room, with Four Poster Bed and Jacuzzi bath. Decor very chinz but clean and warm and homely. Was so peacefull. Bath was great, horrendous colour (not... more

Reading some of the reviews this hotel seems to be like Marmite, you either like it or dislike it. My wife and I fall into the first category. We found the hotel a very comfortable stay for a long weekend. Our bedroom was cosy, warm and clean with plenty of clean towels and sundries. The staff were friendly and helpful... more

My husband and I have just returned from one of our "get off the hamster wheel" trips. I was a bit daunted by some of the reviews - didn't seem promising...But... This is a delightful hotel in a lovely location. The decor's a bit dated, nothing a lick of paint wouldn't cure, and the guests' average age is 70...the food... more

We booked the Wordsworth directly on the strength of two excellent Sunday lunches there-highly recommended but not a sure fire indicator of the health of the accommodation.!! As it was a group booking , the risk was even greater. Securing the booking was much harder than we thought -after all you would have thought a block booking of half the... more

We were terribly disappointed with our stay. It was massively overpriced at more than FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS for us with our teenage daughter for ONLY TWO NIGHTS nights with dinner (and no wine!) We had two adjoining rooms on the ground floor -- the rooms were incredibly pokey, poorly decorated, the carpeting was worn and even ripped in places, and... more

I have just returned form the Wordsworth. I hadn't read the reviews on here prior to going and I am so glad I didn't. Otherwise I would have missed out on a great weekend and possibly some of the finest food I have experienced, and believe me I have experienced some very fine food. I do not understand peoples complaints... more

We stayed at the Wordsworth on a Saturday & Sunday in early January 2008. We had not read your reviews of the hotel until after we made our booking, so were approaching our stay at the hotel with some trepidation. However, on the whole, we had a really enjoyable stay. I do, however, share some of the previous reviewers' views... more

We got the feeling this place is living on its reputation. The advertised swimming pool was Ok but the changing facilities appalling---cold, shoddy and less than basic. The advertised sauna had to booked and extra paid half an hour before use--we only found out after getting changed to swim etc. Very disappointing. No tea/coffee making facilities, a good way to con... more
