We have just returned from this lovely place and would be happy to recommend it to anyone. The location is fantastic, the house is immaculate and the standard of both the food and hospitality were second to none. Its a shame that there is no food available in the evenings but the excellent pub in Near Sawrey, only a few... more

We spent four nights at this lovely restaurant, Unfortunately Glynn Pennington was on his own , His Wife Dee (landlady of the year 2007) had taken a break with her grandchildren. Glynn was a marvellous host and served delicious gastronomic delights every evening. Glynn may not agree but the food was served in the French style but with more vegetables... more

Although not cheap, West Vale is almost the perfect retreat with far reaching views over beautiful rolling fields towards Coniston and the mountains. Contrary to the review below, there are excellent pubs 250 metres in both directions (very walkable) and two village shops. Windermere (via ferry) and Hawkshead are a short drive away and let's face it, we all want... more

Staying in this hotel and being looked after by Dee and Glyn, the owners, was like being enveloped in a big warm hug! The customer service and attention to detail was really exceptional. Dee made us feel so very welcome and showed real interest in us as guests. The rooms were beautifully appointed with gorgeous views over green fields and... more

Just completed a 3 night stay over Spring Bank Holiday 2008 - our first visit - but certainly not our last! The welcome was warm and friendy, the room was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished, the pastoral views were so peaceful and the standard of food easily reflected the 2 AA Rosette Standard in every way. A perfect place to... more

This was our second visit to West Vale, to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. Our previous visit in February 2007 was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! Our first experience was fantastic, hence the return visit. West Vale lived up to our expectations and high standards in all areas continue. The location and house itself are absolutely delightful, the welcome... more

We had a short four night midweek break. The food was truly magnificent, the breakfasts offered plenty of choice - we tried the waffles and maple syrup with fruit as well as the traditional fry up, both were delicious. The evening menu offered a good choice changing daily and always left you feeling sated but not over fed. The accomodation... more

We are regular visitors to the lakes and stayed at this same guest house many years ago when it was under different ownership and in need of an update. Having seen the house had been renovated and under new ownership, we thought we would give it a try. Whilst it is finished to a higher standard than before, the welcome... more

Several of the earlier comments highlighted exactly why we went to this sublime little hotel. We wanted to be in a quiet rural location with no pubs, traffic or children nearby, we wanted to be able to walk from the front door, or drive anywhere in the Lake District. West Vale provides it all, and the food, well, it was... more
