Stayed here D B & B one night; booked on the strength of universally positive Tripadvisor reviews [always reassuring albeit not always infallible]. Can endorse just about everything in previous reviews here: bedroom was obviously a 'standard' one with panoramic views of the roof rather than the lake, but perfectly ok if not sumptuous, with spacious well-fitted bathroom, complete with... more

We stayed in March. As it was a special birthday, we paid for a room with a balcony and it was fabulous to sit out and look at Ullswater. The rest of the hotel was great too: pretty, comfortable lounges; a nice bar and the best food I've had in a long time. Although it was the same menu on... more

An absoloutley brillant few days at what i can say was the nicest hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The location is superb, close to penrtih and keswick, the staff were so friendly and the food was superb. As a family we thought the desserts were the best part of the meal, as there was prehaps... more

Just returned from our second visit to Rampsbeck, and found it as lovely as we had remembered. We had booked a superior room with side lake view but on arrival we were upgraded to a small suite. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, a hospitality tray is not routinely provided, but we found it to be readily available on request,... more

Chose the hotel for a special weekend break, everything about the hotel from the staff, location, service and most of all the food was excellent. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, fruit, tea and coffee, bottled water all in the room and replenished regularly. Luxurious fluffy white towels in the bathroom. A very enjoyable weekend. From a Greater Manchester trip... more

Had a very relaxing one night stay at this hotel on our way back from the highlands and Islands of Scotland. It is beautifully situated on the banks of Ullswater but has very easy access just minutes from the M6 The room was traditionally styled as you would expect in a country house hotel but bright and airy with views... more

I woke to the baaing of sheep and lambs and the sun rising on the lake. The rooms with a view are phenomenal. A friendly reception and very good food in this charmingly dated, but well maintained, Edwardian country house. A fine garden for gardeners was an unexpected attraction. Definitely a superior hotel experience and very reasonably priced. more

My wife and I and our two dogs stayed here for three nights in September 2005. The setting of the hotel is beautiful. The various sitting rooms, restaurant and bar are outstanding, and the food is excellent. Some of the rooms are available for people who want to bring their dogs with them, and the staff go out of their... more

We stayed at the Rampsbeck in 1998, but ate at Sharrow Bay across the lake - an ambition we'd had for some time. This year we stayed at the Rampsbeck two nights, and ate there the first night before a very disappointing return to Sharrow Bay for dinner the following night. The welcome at Rampsbeck was warm and friendly, and... more

The gardens are magnificent and the hotel is near enough to the lake for it to be seen from the bedroom windows. The food and service in the restaurant are excellent. The hotel has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. more
