From reading the reviews I didn't expect much. Add to that the fact I was on a cheap conference rate I thought i'd get the worst room in the place. In fact the room itself was excellent... The view over a building site was the only downside. The builders were literally 10 feet away and when you opened the curtains... more
No parking but centrally situated and easy to get to by public transport/taxi. Very limited lounge and bar space, none reserved for residents (planned roof top extension may rectify this). When the hotel is busy you may have to queue for breakfast. Staff generally helpful and courteous. We were there for a wedding which was well managed by the hotel.... more
We booked The George Hotel on last minute.com and got a great deal B&B. The hotel is fabulously located on George Street where all the nice shops are and is ideally situated for going to bars/ restaurants in the city centre. We had no problems with check in but didn't like the fact there is no parking at the hotel... more
In terms of location, the George Hotel is ideal, within walking distance of most of Edinburgh's main sights; George Street is the most stylish of the city's main shopping streets. Check-in was a little slow, but staff on reception were friendly. The room was at the back of the hotel, so there was no view. However, it was of reasonable... more
We stayed overnight on a Saturday, as part of an organised tour of Scotland, and initial impressions were O.K. particularly given its excellent location. However, we were given a room on the first floor directly above the function room were there was a wedding on. We were tired and looking forward to an early night but the wedding party went... more
We stayed at the George for 1nt to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and we were both really disappointed. Firstly, we arrived just after 4.30pm and still had to wait for our room which was only 5mins but you don't expect to wait when you arrive after their stated check-in time of 3pm. First impressions of our room were brilliant... more
Stayed in January this year, and have nothing at all to complain about - had a truly great time. Great room, location, everything was nice and clean. Had to wait an hour though for our room to be ready on the check-in. Staff were ok. Visit the bar for cocktails, they are pretty amazing! - good size as well, not... more
We went to the Geroge hotel for 3 nights for a long easter hotel with our two childrens (4y. and 1.5 y). The room was really nice, 4* standard but would not recommend this hotel for families with young children. Staff at the restaurant (incl breakfast) were not friendly with the children and didn't want to see them walking (and... more
What a lovely room...huge bed, great bath. Nice location. Not a traditional 'small' European hotel room...easy to walk all about Edinburgh from this location. Great treat! more
