I booked this hotel based on previous TripAdvisor reviews, as a suprise birthday weekend for my girlfriend. I've stayed in many hotels in my time, and when we arrived, it became quickly apparent the reviews on Tripadvisor were absolutely not an accurate reflection of the Melvin House Hotel. Whilst the hotel is well-located and the rooms have nice views, the... more

I stayed at Melvin House 3 nights and it was a great experience. It is an old and well maintained house and feels very genuine. The location is great, not right at the centre but only 10 minutes walk to the centre. It is located in a beautiful, quiet square. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast is big... more

Spent one night there for training with work. Stunning and traditional exterior and lobby. Room was clean if a little dated in decor. Quite spacious for a single room! with lovely views over the Forth valley. Staff were very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Breakfast delicious. Very close to Princes street/George Street and the streets surrounding the hotel are very traditional... more

The hotel location is near the city centre, but still not too busy. Another good thing was the 4th floor room, which was in excellent condition. Also, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was tasty. We had a great visit in Edinburgh and the Melvin House Hotel contributed to that. more

We stayed at the Melvin House Hotel for a weekend away in Edinburgh, a found it to be a great place to stay. It's traditionally styled, close to the city centre and fab restaurants on Geoge street. We stayed on the second floor in a double (well triple) room - which was more than big enough; it had a tv... more

Our second stay in this lovely hotel and we were upgraded! The room is huge with lots of fluffy towels, good toiletries and space with views over the Dean Village and the Firth of Forth to Fife. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful although communication at breakfast was a bit difficult at times as English is definitely a... more

I am just back from a 4 night stay at the Melvin House Hotel. I really would recommend this hotel. It is in a lovely area (West End) which is less than 5 mins walk from Princes Street. This is a hotel with character, the building is lovely, the staff helpful and friendly. The breakfast is very good; and all... more

We arrived on 26th September for a 3 day stay. The entrance and reception area are very impressive and the staff very pleasant and helpful at all times. Our room was enormous and very well equipped. The breakfasts were great - very well cooked and lots of choice. I would return to this Hotel in a flash - very reasonable... more
