This hotel is ideally placed on a pedestrian street between the Puerta del Sol and the Opera house. The Plaza Mayor and the Real Palace are both within 5 minutes walk as are some of the many tapas bars and restaurants. The hotel is basic, but comfortable and exceptionally clean with friendly and polite staff. The rooms are of reasonable... more

Location is excellent.... Everything within walking distance.... Top floor of the hotel has just been renovated, and I'd recommend you to request a room up there.... However, bathrooms are see-through (v.European according to porter)..... But much more up-to-date than older rooms..... Rooms were old-fashioned, but clean which is the main thing.... Staff weren't unpleasant, they were ignorant..... Madrid is a... more

ok, so its a 2 star hotel. but its not bad. there are large cracks in all the walls in the hotel, i thought it was just in my room. but they are everywhere, i was in room 429 which is only a room, the bathroom/shower in down the hall and down another hall, so its inconvenient. a good location... more

Having just got back from 3 nights in this beautiful city I just had to write a review for this hotel as I always read them before booking any hotels and we have been on a lot of European city breaks in the last 3 years. This hotel had the best location being on a pedestrianised street (even though our... more

We arrived back this morning, after a fabulous weekend. There's so much to do - and we couldn't fit everything in during just a couple of days... so we'll be heading back soon to do a bit more... and a bit more... and a bit more... Stayed at the Francisco I in Calle Arenal, which is halfway between the Sol... more

The location is worth it. I stayed at this hotel during an EF tour with my high school. It was the first European hotel that I had stayed in. At first, it seemed kind of old and trashy, but I think this was just in comparisson to American hotels. The old world charm grew on me after three nights, and... more

This hotel was in a brilliant location, you had everything (bars, restaurants, shops etc) right on your doorstep!! the hotel was ok apart from a few minor glitches. We booked a twin room and a quad room and the quad room was fine, clean and had a separate bathroom!!!Twin room was beautiful(was in the newer part of the hotel) bar it had a see-through... more

My wife and I just came back from Spain...We visited several cities including Madrid. Our experience at Francisco I was by FAR the WORST OF ALL. Don't ask for a double bed room; otherwise, you would get a "whole in the wall." We had to change our room for two twin beds. Either one, the rooms are very old....We found... more

This hotel is tiny, never refurbished (at least the first 4 floors) and extremely noisy. During our three days stay, we enjoyed the neighbours conversation, the cleaners continuous chat, the workers curses, all beginning at 7.30 AM. The room was small but the bathroom had a bathtub and it was spotless. Breakfast is nothing but some toast with jam and... more
